Okay, so last night somebody threw out my retainer but luckily my mom found it by digging it out of the trash. The unfortunate part is that the retainer has been inside the garbage bag out on the streets for almost twelve hours. I've use toothpaste to brush my retainer but my mom and i still think that it dirty with bacteria. My question is, is there more i could do to disinfect my retainer?

my orthodontist gave me these things called 'retainer brite' and they basically clean your retainer (kills germs/bacteria etc.) and make it look brighter. they sell these in 3 (92 tablets for $13.95) , 6 (184 tablets for $24.95) and one year ( 368 tablets for $39.95) supplies. i don't know if you'd want to spend money just to clean your retainer though.
