Movie Making And Editing Software? Not free trails

Can anybody share some links to good, free (not trials) movie making/video editing softwares?
i found some online but they are either free trials or they are not good.
i'm using windows movie maker, and it doesnt have many effects, and the subtitle is way too high.

the particular effect im looking for is the one where you can make the video smaller and there's two black strips at the top & bottom of the video. kind of like in the movies?

does anyone have a good software to recommend?

good and free don't mix when it comes to video editing.

I agree with Xarthan. You have to buy if you want more features for this type of software.
