Eating Before 6 helps you lose weight?

I've heard from various sources that if you eat before 6 and don't eat anything after that, supposedly you'll lose weight, even if you don't exercise or anything. However, I was listening to a CNN podcast with Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and he said that it doesn't matter when you stop eating-a calorie is still a calorie, although it still is good to have a cutoff point after which you don't eat. Eating late at night contributes to GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) and trouble sleeping.

I've been trying this for awhile, and I don't really see that much of a difference, and I also exercise + do that bahn sin yohk thing a couple of times a week.

Have any of you guys had experience with this? I'm just curious...

I heard that your metabolism slows when you go to sleep, so if you eat a lot before you sleep, then it'll take longer for your body to burn those calories. And if you don't burn them, it'll be converted to fat. :x So if you eat earlier, like around 6, then you're more likely to burn those calories before you go to bed around 9 or 10 pm or so.

Of course, you'll need to exercise too.. It's not like your body can burn those calories fast on its own. You need to make your metabolism faster by working out.

for me i eat before 6:30 and after that i don't eat..just waterr.

along with that there's exercise and the right amount of food during teh day

it does help but you could do it even if you eat after 6

i heard of tat .
alot of asians dont eat after 6 .
but my family eats vietnamese food after 6 tho .
like dinner. but if its like fast food. then we go eat at like 5.

i think is true. you wont lose weight . but you wont GAIN weight .
since at 9ish you go to sleep . & tat makes ur body lazy . & tat
will make you fat .

i duno . from my point of view .

bleh,

I always eat at 7-7:30 pm
can't eat earlier because I'm not hungry yet.

If you eat right (low fat & calories food), good portion, you won't get fat no matter what time you eat your meals.

i binge before i go to bed and i dont gain weight X.x i think it all depends on how fast your metabolism already is

wouldn't it depend on what you ate before 6, and how much you ate?
i lost weight by doing this too but thats cause i ate between the hours of 13.00 + 18.00
and it was healthy foods~

but she said stop eating 2 hours before you go to sleep. doesnt have to be 6 i think. & doing that alone wont lose you any weight unless you had a serious eating-after-six or midnight feasting problem before. i reckon you should team this habit up with all the other little weight-loss habits you've picked up. i wil!

i don't have my dinner on 6PM.
it's always about 7-7:30PM,
that's when my mom finish cooking.

You should not eat within a few hours of going to bed. Because your metabolism slows down when you sleep, extra calories will be converted to fat quicker. There is no specific "hour" for this as people sleep at different times. 6PM is probably based on an average adult sleeping around 10PM most likely.

It depends on what time you sleep.
i think it should be 3-4 hours before you sleep?

it would be unhealthy if you stop eatting at 6pm and didnt sleep until like 12am which = 6 hours + x hours of sleep.
that's too long to go without food.
you'd just wake up and want to eat even more.

^ That's what I heard to. You're not suppose to eat 3 hours before you sleep.

I'll eat whenever I want, I'm not gonna go hungry. But I haven't been eating late at night lately. sweatingbullets.gif

Like the 2 people above said, don't eat 3-4 hrs before u go to sleep.
I'm trying to break my habit of eating at night, but it's not working. bleh.

yea i've tried that before and i lost like 5~8 pounds in a week and a half. it works like a charm for me, but it differs for everyone evidently.

My doctor told me the same thing. " A calorie is a calorie".
Eating at night can cause sleep problems and that's it.
You want to lose weight you have to exercise or reduce your calorie intake.

oh my teacher was talking about his student doing this. She ended up losing weight but only in her upper body and her cheeks began to hollow out.
I'm not sure if she did any exercise or not.

everyone i know told me not to eat before 7 so i usually eat at around 5-6 do little exercise then sleep ^o^

it really doesn't matter what time u eat and what time u sleep.
it would acutally digest better cuz your laying around lol.
It just depends on WHAT YOU EAT before you sleep.
