I want to buy my mom one of those GPS systems that you can put in your car to tell you where to go...I'm not sure what it's called exactly. (I hope you know what I'm talking about anyway. ^^;;) My question is, which brand or model is good to get?

Thanks a lot!

tomtom, garmin, and magellan are the popular affordable ones.
they range from 250-500$ depending on what you get.

i have the magellan maestro and its great with locations.

TomTom is good.
We used it when we went for a trip to Seattle, and then we returned it after we were done using it tongue.gif

Every store should have money back guarantee, so just buy and try it out, if you don't like, return it.

check out amazon.com for customer reviews

Off-topic: Haha ddong, I love your signature.

Hmm, I'm not sure about which brand, but you can get them pretty cheap these days. Be a cheap Asian and wait for 'em to depreciate. biggrin.gif

Anyway, I have a Pocket PC and Dad bought an extra thingomobob to attach to it, turning it into a GPS. Awesome, la?

I just bought a Tomtom for my dad's birthday. It's on sale at Radio Shack for $199!

I have a tomtom One and I reckon its great value. The GPS navigation system works just fine, and its cheap because it doesnt have all the extra doohickeys. Its great if all you want is a GPS navigation system

Go with TomTom. It has a Help feature that is kind of like OnStar except its free and you do not have to be with AAA to use this feature. Also TomTom has EasyShare. This feature allows the user to update his maps for free via download!

TomTom's also allow you to change the map say if there is an error on any of the maps. Once you change them, you can submit it to the TomTom network. By doing so, anyone else who wants to update their TomTom can download the update directly.

The higher Model TomTom's also allow buddy tracking meaning that if someone else has the feature that your GPS has, you can add them and they will appear on YOUR GPS! Though you do not want to abuse this feature too much otherwise you might appear to be a stalker lol.

Lastly, TomTom has voice recognition. You can download any kind of voice you want: whether it would be a celebrity or a model. You can have it! The GPS itself already contains a number of languages but for instance if it does not, you can record your own voice in your language!

But yeah, if you have money to burn, buy the Garmin GPS.

I have Tomtom 6 on my PDA and it works a treat. Been using it for 3 years and before that was using Destinator for 2, all though that doesn't compare to Tomtom.

Hi! I've been reading a lot of reviews lately on these. But it's hard to figure out which ones have the text-to-speech function...does anyone know which models have them?
Thanks a lot!
