DVD Rip Program?

I've been trying to find a program so I can rip some of my DVD's to my computer but I have no clue how to do it or what program to use. Preferably something that rips in avi format.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

DVD ripping has a few steps... there are plenty of guides out there but the following is the easiest method i know of...
get DVDFab decryptor from http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
get autoGK from http://www.autogk.me.uk/
get k-lite mega codec pack 1.38 from http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm
install the codec pack and pick the "encode" setting
use DVDFab decryptor to get the DVD onto your hard disk
use autoGK to process the files
get DVDFab decryptor from http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
get autoGK from http://www.autogk.me.uk/
