I voted for Johnny's, because I really like SMAP's dramas and Arashi (mainly Jun Matsumoto). The younger boys (HEY!SAY!JUMP) are a bit too young though.

you can't really compare them two. Johnny's are trained to be male idols. and that means specializing in practically everything from dramas to singing to dancing to MCing to commercials to musicals to gymnastics and many many other things. Johnny's also have more 'individual' freedoms and not only bound to group activities. Take KinKi Kids for example, Koichi is doing SHOCK musical, while Tsuyoshi is doing his solo 244ENDLICHERI project. as a group, they might not release something for months but they are both working on things individually. i think this is especially important for large groups like Kanjani8 or HEY!SAY! so the most popular member doesn't end up taking all the spotlight

JE sucks. Most of them don't even have singing or dancing talent. They're just there for looks... Even then, they look gay.

Puh-lease, like previous people have stated before, Johnnys artists aren't trained to just SING and DANCE they are trained to be "well-rounded" entertainers who act, host shows, direct the johnnys shows e.g shounen club etc..
When Dong Bang first debuted they were not the best live singers at all (excluding Junsu), they were good at dancing but their lives were hmm somewhat bad, but thats okay they improved alot.

Both seem very different groups. First of all, JE is all-male idols while SM is both male and female. Perhaps if you combined JE and Hello! Project, then it would be much better.

It's hard to choose. I only really listen to DBSK for SM and KAT-TUN for JE (but I'm starting to listen more and more NEWS). I went from an obsessed DBSK fan to a KAT-TUN fan (though I don't think i'll ever hit my dbsk fandom level of obsession)

as idols/business perspective.... JE pawns SM. They practically own the boyband industry in Japan.... Almost every drama I've watched has at least 1 JE member in it.
Singing.. I'm not going to say which company produces better singers because... it all depends on who's singing. Jae Joong is my fav. SM singer and Tegoshi's my fav. JE member in terms of singing (though Jin comes really close)
music: um.. really different genre. I like R&B but not really into bubble gum pop. It really depends on the song. Some reason I like KAT-TUN's music, even though I'm not a rock fan.. and NEWS latest singles sounds good to me.... but DBSK ballads still melt me away. If they wrote their own music (not just tinkered with one or two songs... I know KAT-TUN writes some and so does DBSK) then I would be more impressed. But they're both idol groups...things are handed to them


I chose JE over SM as a company because I'm a huge fan of dramas.... but each company has their pros and cons

One thing I hate about JE is that he doesn't allow his artists pictures on drama promos...
and don't get me started on the shiny costumes...
their dancing is a bit strange for me (as I'm more used to the kpop dancing) but that doesn't mean they suck either.... they are very aerobatic...
JE seems a bit strict though. JJ DUI and got suspended for a couple of months... Kusano just attended a party that had alcohol (when he was underage) and was demoted lower than a junior....

I think SM is taking some of JE ideas as well.... doesn't anyone else think the super junior is somehow modeled out of Johnny Juniors? SuJu seem more rounded then the other boybands that SM produced (hosting radio shows, acting in dramas and what not)
And I heard SM is planning to create a musical (JE has been doing their musical Dream Boys for a while)
I will laugh if I hear about SM shop popping up in Korea

I chose JE over SM for sure.

I used to be a kpop fan aka a DBSK fan but I got sick and tired of them plus their overrated to be honest.
To me when I heard their song either pop or ballad it all sound the same time and it gets on my nerve.
As I was strolling away from Kpop I went into Jpop where I listen to JE music. Though their not really strong
in singing or dancing, they were train to be like other said IDOLS. Most are MCs, singers, actors, and other stuff.

the good thing about JE is that he let them be in dramas and best part they are able to be hook up with girls and fans
won't go threatening those actress if they end up kissing the guys. If that was DBSK, no offense but girls would probably
threat to commit suicide or do sumthing mean toward that actress. Many done that b4 and it gets ugly. The only people
to be honest I see do dramas in SM is mostly Heechul, Siwon and Kibum and movies don't count like DBSK. Most is revolving
about them which is pretty much annoying. At least JE fangirls won't go threatening those actress and make their life a living hell.

JE has their own style of business while SM has theirs. I'm grateful that SM made legendary boybands such as Shinhwa, HOT and the older ones but now he seriously need to redo his plans. The other thing I like about JE is that he doesn't tolerate anything, if one of his Jrs, do sumthing wrong like the incident about one member with DUI he would get suspend from doing anything else but he got demoted down to be back a Jr. If it was SM, LSM would probably find a way and make it look like pity, then wiggle a plan in and the next thing you know that member gets to be back on stage again without any serious consequences.

I kno this is a rant but its my opinion toward those two company.

SM and JE are very .. smart in advertising their singers in their countries. Very smart. and JE owns like the most popular Boybands in Japan. same goes for SM.
JE boybands get number one on the charts, not only because the song itself is catchy as hell, it is also because JE promotes it like crap. AND the boys in JE are freakishly girly, cute ass boys.

As for which one I prefer, SM. I like the singers in SM. IMO SM>JE. Boybands in JP doesn't really catch my attention, even though I am aware of their names, I don't listen to them. :T

I'm sorry but I'm going to come off as a little rude and biatchy right now but those two have got to be the dumbest replies I have read in this thread.

1. I don't get how you could say that Johnnys focuses on boybands when most of SM's artists ARE boybands, that just totally contradicts itself!

2. How can you compare SM's Solo singers & Girlbands to JE's when in JE there are NO girlbands or solo artists. JE debuts its artists as units consisting of 2+ members and within that they have solo projects but still remain in their debuted group whereas SM debuts solo artists and they stay as solo artists who have collaborations with other artists but are still recognized as SOLO artists.
And come on, there are no girls in JE.

SM is more about singing/dancing. I also can't stand their foreign albums. Such as Boa and DBSK singing in Mandarin. Seriously.
