Street Fighter IV Announced
Capcom teases their next major fighter.

As Capcom's media event gets started overseas, the company has already dropped one spectacularly major, but long awaited, announcement by revealing Street Fighter IV is currently in development. Capcom's community website has been counting down for over a week now, as gamers have speculated over what could be such a big deal.

The short teaser is nothing more than some Ryu and Ken stylized artwork of them fighting, with no word on what platforms the game is coming to or a projected release date. Clearly, Capcom is strictly teasing at this point.

Of all games, Street Fighter IV is probably worthy of such a countdown, considering Capcom released the original iteration of Street Fighter III back in 1997. A few months later came 2nd Impact: Giant Attack, which tweaked the gameplay and introduced two new characters, eventually followed up by 3rd Strike: Fight for the Future, bringing back Chun-Li and an addition four new characters, in 1999.

Unfortunately, we don't know anything more than that, and any impressions or announcements from the event are embargoed until later this week. Until then, let the speculation begin on what Capcom's bringing to the table in their latest numbered sequel in the Street Fighter series.

i heard that the people behind SF4 is capcom usa and capcom usa has NOT made any great games. anyone remember final fight street wise? i never even played it buh from the looks of it...it looked like crap. i do however hope that they are working with capcom japan cause i dont think capcom will just throw their biggest franchise in the hands of newbies.

cant get enough of the teaser trailer. i believe the game is going to have the same art work as in 3S. akiman ftw!

It's no surprise to any Street Fighter fan that Capcom would eventually have to produce a follow-up to the aging but still ever so popular Street Fighter III:3rd Strike which was released an amazing 8 years ago.


Yes, the trailer is a CGI 3-D intro, but there's no need to panic, at least from our source which tells us the game will be in 2-D with spruced up graphics that will put SFIII3S to shame. If Capcom decides to follow through on their arcade release, expect to see it on Taito's Type X2, which is also supported by SNK Playmore. SF IV will be presented with HD graphics in a 16:9 frame ratio. Further details and footage will likely be shown at the AOU Show in Japan in February 2008.

but it will play as 2D...its not gunna be a Virtua Fighter or Tekken type game...

itll be celshaded to give that old school 2D look...

ah shoot after watching multiple trailers of this im stoked now. maybe it'll make me stop playing GG And Capcom vs Snk 2 for a while. Hopefully the 3d playing like 2d thing will work out. Also is online comfirmed?
