I'm going to Tokyo this weekend with six of Korea's top punk bands for the Korea/Japan Punk Festival 2005.

Rux
Suck Stuff
Captain Bootbois
Cock Rasher
Shorty Cat
Ghetto Bombs

and the Japanese bands:
RAISE A FLAG
THE BASEMENTS
DISCOCKS
Oi! VALCANS
ONE FOR ALL
ANGER FLARES
BOOTed COCKS
Royal SHAMROCK

Sometime next year we'll have the Korea/Japan Punk Festival in Seoul. Yeah, I know, a year late.

Here's a page in Japanese with bios of the bands and samples of their music.

Good to see that all these bands seem to be underground. I was expecting some mainstream stuff from Japan's side.

The airline fare from Seoul to Tokyo isn't that expensive.

It really depends on your definition of costume. Some of them are skinhead bands, and some are pogo-punk bands. I saw Royal Shamrock once before, and one guy dresses in a kilt (a la Dropkick Murphys). Of the Japanese bands I've seen, a lot of them do have a tendency to dress up a little more. I'll tell you my impression when I get back.

I'm just a poor writer who makes choose-your-own adventure stories for a website. I made more teaching English last year. Plus, I recommend the Hyosung Supercab; it's very fuel efficient.

Do you seriously write choose your own adventure stories?! That is outstanding. Anyhow enjoy the show. We expect a complete report upon your return.

You'll get a full report.

And yes, here's a sample of one of my stories I posted online to show off. It's about pirates. Don't mind the simplistic language; it is for Koreans, after all.

I mean the ones.......I really dont have examples I listen to so little Japanese music. AH here is a photo from my dumb arse friend's photobucket like this. The types of bands who hump more then play music, I would go into more detail but I cant curse on soompi

I'm back from Japan and I took tons of photos. All the bands were great and everything was insanely expensive. In a few days I'll have a big feature up online so you can see what it was like. Yeah, Japanese bands are a bit showier than Koreans, but nobody was quite that dressed up (at least outside of Harajuku).

Well I've finished the photos from day 1. Basically these guys are dressed pretty normal.

There's Jonghee, the singer from Rux, on the right, and the guy we call the Pig Nazi from Cock Rasher on the left.

This is Skele from the bands Captain Bootbois, Choke Slammer, and Shot Between the Eyes.
IPB Image

Here's Paul from Suck Stuff, shortly after explaining that his American passport had been eaten by his dog and shortly before they confiscated his bullet belt.
IPB Image

The drummer from Ghetto Bombs on the right and the guitarist from Rux with his girlfriend.
IPB Image

Me wearing a "funny" shirt on the plane.
IPB Image

It cost 16 000 won (1600 yen) and took over an hour.
IPB Image

We were picked up by some Japanese punks. The guy plays accordion in Royal Shamrock.
IPB Image

Shorty Cat in a bar.

Anyway, there are plenty more where that came from. I'll have the other four days up over the next while.
