people, READ the article before making sweeping statements about being mean or whatever.

honestly i never really was a fan of Britney Spears during her hayday..however. i HATE to see people who have talent and potential, just go down the drain. this is why i'm posting this, for that reason and because i know there are fans of Britney here on Soompi.

Boycotting Britney

10/22/2007 10:00 AM, E! Online

Some former Britney Spears' pals are calling for a blackout on Blackout—at least until the singer cleans up her act.

"Our message is simple," says one of the organizers of the Be Proactive to Help Website. "Don't buy her stuff until she's better."

The MySpace-based page was created by people who used to work with Britney, including a bodyguard, backup dancer and makeup artist, as well as several old friends.

"We've all hung out with Britney a lot," says our source. "We've seen her at her best and at her worst. And we aren't doing this to be mean. We're doing this out of concern, for herself and for her boys. They need a mother figure and right now, they don't have that."

The group accuses record executives and other business associates who make money off of Spears as acting as enablers, turning a blind eye to her erratic behavior because she continues to make them money.

"They can see she's in pain, and they don't care," says the former associate.

There was no immediate comment from Jive Records, which plans on releasing Spears' new album, Blackout, Oct. 30.

In the past two months, Spears gave a train-wreck performance of her new single "Gimme More" at the MTV Video Music Awards, was dropped by her lawyer and manager and has been routinely lambasted by a court commissioner, who labeled her a "habitual, frequent and continuous" user of drugs and booze and temporarily took her kids away.

The new site, boasting the Heroes-channeling headline "Save the Popstar, Save the World," urges fans to contact Jive, MTV, her management team and her music publishing house.

"Let them know you'll buy her album, but not until she is clean and sober and realizes the amazing life she has created for herself...

"Let them know you'll be around to buy her music, her merchandise, when she sets a better example of how to be a performer...It is every employer's job to make sure their staff is doing their job to the best of their abilities."

Spears caused some grief in the Jive ranks when she no-showed at two auditions for backup performers. Spears was supposed to personally choose the hoofers for her next music video and upcoming tour but failed to turn up at the L.A. dance studio."She kept saying she was sick, but then the paparazzi would catch her out and about, smiling and buying latte drinks at Starbucks," an insider tells E! Online.

Staffers at the studio say word was sent to Spears, from her label, to get back to work.

"They say that," the former Spears colleague says. "But in reality, they let her act any way she wants, as long as her records sell. Every time she's on a tabloid for embarrassing herself or being a bad mom, what do they care? They don't.

"And it's sad that people around Britney care so little about someone who makes them so much money."

i think this is going the wrong way...she needs the support...go and buy the cd...maybe she'll see she still have fans/friends who are behind her music...thatll probably motivate her to clean up her act...

boycotting her just give her more reasons to be depress...and possible hurt herself even more.

I think it's good what everyone is doing.

Because you should support someone who doesn't have a messed up life and aprties all night and is... crazy o_o

At first I thought that she needed support but then people have been supporting her a lot, friends, family and other celebrities. Everyone has been making excuses for her. Now it's up to Britney to clean her act for her sons. Her lifestyle needs to desperately change. Maybe it's the drugs, depression, pressure, I don't know but all I see is an immature person who needs serious help. Seriously, who goes shopping right after her sons were taking away. And after being criticized for not wearing any panties, she goes out and flash everyone again.

She really needs to get better so she can take care of her babies. I really dont see how boycotting her album will help though. Shes already paying mad child support to FEDEX. She needs to wear undergarments, stop drinking, and hire a driver. I love the songs on the cd. Im tempted to buy it.

fame and fortune shouldnt even matter, for fact she already has both...she needs to see that her fans still support her and hope for her to do better...

i dont think shunning a person going through some troubles is a good idea...

boycotting my girl britney? no way.
i'll boycott you kind of sadcases instead >=((
yes i understand the point that she needs to get better and own up to her acts,
but don't they feel ashamed that they're just being immature and not sensible about this?
i really can't see how boycotting her album is going to work.

--i'm not in her shoes so i can't say, but i know that if i were acting like that and my friends and family refused to support whatever it was i was doing it would make me pissed as hell...then i'd wonder why...and realize i was out of control....

she does need to get better...i'm not saying boycotting is THE answer but it most likely will make her open her eyes....more than buying it and implying that her behavior is acceptable..as for her paying child support..dude, britney could not work for the rest of her life and be set. the girl has bank..she's been doing this since 9 years old...lol

i don't think they're being immature. did you read how the record labels don't care...i've heard that so much from different sources whenever a celebrity is going down...it's rare that the labels, managers, ect really care about their "projects"..i mean think about it..as long as she's making them money why would they care. look at all of the celebrities who have died from self destruction...maybe if their labels had been more...supportive (and not in the here'smoredrugs!nowgetonstage way) we wouldn't have the trail of lost talent we do here in the States.

like i said i was never really a fan of Britney, but over the past couple of months, i've grown an affinity towards her..don't you think that buying her album while she's a train wreck personally (not talking about her appearance, because her weight is superficial) just advocates her using, erratic behavior and says

"it's ok Britney, no matter how much you destroy you and your kids lives, as long as you keep making music , and the gossip pages we'll buy it)

i think you have to look at it more as not your idol, or favorite celeb, think of her more as a real person..would you allow your sister to keep doing things like this?your mother?

wouldn't you want to say

"it's ok Britney, take the time you need to get youself better, we'll always be here for you, but we're not going to let you ruin yourself for a few album sales"

when she dies what can anyone say? Nothing! These people don't care about Britney and her fans don't care about her well being either. Simple fact is it would be better to boycott as a protest not as a smack in her face because her album is going to bomb anyway...then you will have fans saying she isn't the same and what happened to britney making her feel even worse...its not like she is going to be able to make the tours because she has serious issues and problems.
I'M DONE...and soo over the hysteria!!!

Her new album is amazing and I'm buying it. It might even help her seeing all the sales. TBH she seems to be cleaning herself up a bit in the past few days.
i'm in love with you

i don't know. the good thing about boycotting her album is that it COULD make her clean up her act, realize that her fans care for her and want her to get her act together before they will support her.

The bad thing about boycotting it is that it could have the opposite effect. She might feel even more down and completely stop with her career altogether and just make it worse.

There's just no way to say how she'll react with how spontaneous she's been lately. I just hope that if it is boycotted, that she will turn her act around. It is such a waste to see her potential going down the drain over a few bad choices that she could fix if she tried now.

i know what you're trying to say but,
don't they need to see more sense on what exactly they're trying to do?
they're boycotting it but think about all the britney fans globally
i totally agree with JENNY*
there are pros and cons for everything, and this time definitely for her album.
it'd be great if she finally know what's she doing when it's being boycotted
but think about what would happen if it backfires instead?

yeah i know what JENNY* is saying..i thought about that too. it's like right now her behavior is really erratic...also her logic could be messed up..as in if she sees the fans buying her albums, she think she's right, and keeps on doing what she's doing, or it could go the other way..she sees them not buying it and she says to herself she needs to clean up....

idk if any of you have dealt with people who have addictions, but sometimes when you don't show them tough love they don't get how much they're killing themselves...like the more you..idk..don't treat them firmly? they just keep trying to get over on you..idk..

either way i think she should go back to being the old britney...if the boycott works, then great..if buying the albums works, great..but to fans who think like this:

that's the exact mentality that her family and friends are afraid of...when you say things like that it kinda makes you seem greedy and uncaring for her as a human...it's like: what ever, she can neglect her kids, ruin her life,be a wild child..just as long as i get what i want.

which in a way is how the record label sees her..as a business. as a name...not as a person. sleep.gif i think that's where her friends are coming from with this..they could give two shits if she sells 1 or 1 million records..they want her to live. they want her to be happy, they want the person they knew back. and i can understand that. sleep.gif

propaganda.

i think britney does need to clean up her act.
but she needs to fall before she can really get up.
she's been through many things, but if it takes this album to
make her see that she really needs to clean up, then yah.

she's a big thing in the music industry,
im sure her label aint gonna lose money for the album,
and then let it go back into the bag.

i dont know.
but i like britney.
i think she is kinda wanting to be back too fast.

anyways.
i'll wait to see.
i support her regardless.
i mean when she's a good girl.

I don't think this is a good idea. This will just mentally damage her even more. She's so desperate to get back into the industry and people boycotting her stuff will just make her more emotionally unstable. =/
