[article]Poppy Mr. Saxman I-SPY Mag. May 2009

Whenever we see him with his members as the group K-OTIC this prince, Poppy Panu Chiraguna, can always be seen dancing away with members. If you are a true fan of his then you’ll know that he has a romantic side to him as well. Aside from his soft voice that make girls melt when they hear him sing he is also a skilled saxophone player. So with this column we’ll have a talk with Poppy and he’ll take the role on as a saxophone instructor and explain to the readers at I-SPY magazine about the saxophone.

What made you choose to play the saxophone?
The reason I started playing the saxophone was because my mom and my aunt were interested in it and at my school, ICS, during the time I was going to be a 5th grader we had to choose an elective between reading or playing an instrument. And I thought that since we are always reading anyway mind as well play an instrument, so I was wondering what instrument should I pick then I looked around and saw the saxophone and I thought that it looked cool and the King also loves the sound of the saxophone too so I chose it and started playing it from then on.

Did this inspire you to play other instruments?
I think that once you learn how to play one instrument it’ll slowly make you want to learn how to play other instruments. To be honest the first instrument I learned to play was the piano. With instruments all you need to do is learn the notes well and find those notes on different instruments and once you learn that I think you can play anything.

If you want to play … what should know you?
The first thing you should know if you want to play the saxophone is the different pieces and parts to it like the mouthpiece and the reed and what purpose each function does. First you should practice blowing into the saxophone by steadying your breath while trying to hit each note

The steps to success ...
Once you can successfully steady your breath with the saxophone all that’s left is actually remembering which key to hit for each note and making a steady sound with it. Once you pass doing this you can slowly start playing a song. Most people say that you should start practicing with Classical music so you can progress better but I personally think that playing Jazz is more fun then playing Classical music (laughs). Because once you learn the different techniques with learning how to play Jazz you’ll just end up having fun with it.

The saxophone isn’t as hard as you think
I think that the saxophone is actually an easy instrument to learn. Right now the price for a saxophone has dropped a lot from before and nowadays you can buy a saxophone from a second hand shop or even rent one. The most important thing is that the saxophone is an instrument that is fun to play and isn’t that hard to learn.

Seeing how Poppy loves playing the sax and wants everyone to give a try his fans right now are probably going around getting saxophone lessons as we speak. And I bet if Poppy was the saxophone teacher there would be a line of kids wanting to take his class.

[Article]Tomo & Koen - The Best of Friends KAZZ E-MAGAZINE MAY 2009 issue

How long have you known each other?
Tomo : 3 years
Koen : 3 years now, ever since we joined KAMIKAZE


Can you talk about each others personality?
Koen : If you look at Tomo you might think that he’s a quiet person who doesn’t talk much and is a little introverted but the truth is that at times he can joke around a lot and can talk a lot too (laughs)
Tomo : Koem is a very talkative person and anyone who is around him will have a good time. At times he can be a little mischievous but I’ve learned to adjust to it and sometimes I joined in on the mischievous activity too (laughs).

Do you have anything you want to confess to him about that you are sorry for?
Tomo : There was this one time where we were painting a shirt and I squeezed the paint bottle all over his hand.
Koen : And the paint didn’t come off either, once I got home I had to scrub my hand really good for it to come off. Something I want to confess to him about…well we already made up about this a while ago but I guess I can say sorry again for it. There was this one day when Tomo was sleeping and you know when you have one of those days where you are just really exhausted from working all day and you end up sleeping with your mouth open. And with Tomo his bottom lip is really full and he was really tired that day so it was all open so I ended up taking a picture of it. And when Tomo woke up I couldn’t keep the secret quiet any longer and I showed him the picture I took and he erased the picture (laughs).

Do you guys worry about each other?
Koen : All 5 of us in K-OTIC are always caring and worrying about one another. We love each other a lot and when we work it doesn’t feel like working. It’s more like hanging out with friends because we’ve been together for 3 years now and before we formed the group we knew each other already. We get closer to each other as each day passes by.

Do you have anything you want to say to the other person?
Tomo : I want to tell everyone in the group that no matter how hard we practice to get some rest because someone might get sick and then all 5 of us wont be there together as one.
Koen : We’ve been friends for 3 years now and I don’t want us to be friends for just 3 years but to continue this friendship forever.

Is there anything you can’t accept about the other person?
Koen : I’ll start with Tomo’s story first. When I joined KAMIKAZE I was just 14 years old and at that time I started to grow armpit hair (laughs). And I checked Tomo’s armpit to see if he had any and I wondered why he didn’t have any yet and that’s when I found out that he was older then me too. So the thing I can’t accept about Tomo is that he is this old and why is his armpit hair so fine and little (laughs).

Tomo : When we are touring in the country we share a room at the hotel we are staying at. When Koen is about to go to sleep and comes out from the bathroom his face is full of powder and whenever he walks bits and pieces of the powder will fall off his face (laughs). When he smiles, laughs it just continues to fall. Koen takes really good care of his skin and every night he does this to it. Oh and there was this one time when we went into a 7-Eleven and Koen had his face full of that powder and he was just walking around the store buying things with it on it his face like it was normal.

Koen : Oh there’s more. I don’t know but Tomo lately, well ever since 2008 I don’t know what’s wrong with Tomo. He’s been in a joking and pranking mood lately. For example, I would go to the bathroom and then Tomo would go in and hide for 10-15 minutes and he'll wait there till I come out and say “Boo!” If I can count how many times he made me scream like a girl for doing that, I’d say about 2 times now (laughs).

Tomo : Oh there was this one time when Koen came into RS for rehearsals and I was thinking to myself “Why does Koen’s hair look shorter today?” Before his bangs were at his eyebrows and that day it was way higher then before (laughs). Then I found out that when he had gone home the other day he wanted to cut his hair so he put his hand on bangs and started cutting. And when he let his hand go it was shorter then he expected.

Koen : I always cut my hair by myself until RS told me to stop cutting it (laughs). You see I think bangs should be straight and when the hairstylists at RS cuts by bangs they do it the girl way in layers and I didn’t like it and that’s why I cut it myself. Like what Tomo said, once I let my hand go my hair was sticking up.

Can I continue talking about Tomo? There was this one time when Tomo was really skinny because he had a tape worm (parasitic infestation) and he lost so much weight until he was 52 kilos (about114 pounds) he weighed as much as a girl. When Tomo would take his shirt off he was so thin that I could see his bones sticking out. It’s like I could see his liver, kidney, stomach just everything, it was like I was looking at a gecko or something but he’s a human (laughs). You should be a little fatter Tomo.

Tomo : Right now I’m 59 kilos(about 130 pounds) and I’m eating a lot more and I’m eating a lot of proteins too. There is another thing that I can’t accept of Koen’s everyone knows that in our “Blacklist” music video there is one part of the mv where Koen opens his legs oh wait its called doing the splits not opening his legs (laughs). So our fans would come and say “oh Tomo can I get an autograph” or “Kenta can I get your signature” or “Poppy here is a bear for you” then “Koen can you do the splits for me?” They would ask him to do the splits because its become his signature move now.

Getting to Know Tomo K-OTIC I-SPY Magazine MAY 2009

A lot of people became curious about Tomo Visawa Taiyannont, 1 of the 5 members of K-OTIC when he was in the headlines of being of Ploy Cherman’s new boyfriend. After hearing the news Tomo came out to clarify the news saying that “No, I’m not her boyfriend and I’ve never considered dating her.” After hearing this I decided to side with the handsome guy myself. After a while I thought hmm a cute guy like this who can dance well what girl wouldn’t want to be his girlfriend. But who is this girl holding a piece of paper and calling herself Tomo’s fan (fan has multiple meanings in Thai but in this case the person is insinuating that it’s a boyfriend/girlfriend meaning). Let’s see what kind of “fan” she is.

Hello Tomo, my name is Pop Paap.
That’s a cute name. You’re name should’ve been Poppy so that we can be in the same group (smiles)

I want to introduce myself first. I’m a member of your fan club Tomo Team Club (TMTC) and I’m very proud to be apart of TMTC and I’ll forever be a TMTC member.
Thank you for liking me and joining the fan club. All the support and love I get from the fans sort of makes me feel like I should take extra care of myself and that I should work harder for you guys. Right now there is a lot of people expecting a lot of us and there is a lot of pressure coming all around us and I promise that I won’t let you Pop Paap down or anyone else down.

Well … I wanted to tell you that this card here is a Limited Edition card that can’t be found anywhere. I put a lot of effort into it and I have never done something like this before so it isn’t that pretty. But I made it from the heart and even though the writing might not be perfect I tried my best so I can do this for you.
I don’t see anything wrong with this card, I think it’s a pretty card. The idea of your card came from your heart and it’s a cute card actually. And on the back of the card it says “incredible” so that means you really are a true fan since this came from the meaning of K-OTIC.

K = Kick Ass (Koen)
O = Outstanding (Kenta)
T = Terrific (Jongbae)
I = Incredible (me)
C = Chaotic (Poppy)

And if you weren’t a true fan of the group then you wouldn’t have known this. And I actually want to thank you for making this card and putting all of your efforts into making it, it means a lot to me.

I love you so much, you are my idol. You can dance really well, and you have a lot of talent and you also have a good body.

The good body is from working out. When I lived in the states I was always going to the gym doing push ups and playing basketball. Working out is something I like to do and it isn’t something difficult to do either. If there happens to be a day where I can’t make it to the gym that day then I’ll just run laps around my house. But right now I’m not that satisfied with my body, I think I’m too skinny plus I think I get it from my mom since she’s really tiny too. No matter how much I eat I can never get fat so I have to constantly eat a lot of proteins so I can gain more weight.

I have a lot of your pictures in my room and I printed some out and I also have a huge poster of you hanging in my room too. It’s sort of like a mini picture museum of K-OTIC in my room.
That’s awesome, I’ve never knew or heard of anything like this before. I’ve never been told that a fan has picture of me all over their room before. I’ve only known fans where they would see us at concerts and they would take 1,000 pictures per member so 2 members would be 2,000 pictures (laughs). It’s like the capture every movement I make and on the TMTC website they would immediately post em up for the rest to see. At times I would save the pictures that the members took of me and I would print them and take real good care of those pictures because it’s a good memory that was captured by my fans.

I loved your hair and red skinny jeans during your first albums promotion.
(laughs) I never thought that anyone would actually like it. I didn’t think of doing that, the company suggested it. I thought the red pants were a bit much since it was so bright but I took one for the team so it would fit the concept of that album. I care more about how the group looks as a whole instead of worrying about how I personally look like in the group.

I’m following your work with the latest K-OTIC album “Blacklist” and I really love the songs on it.
If you ask me, I personally love the song “Rai Tae Ruk” the most off of the album. I like the melody and the lyrics to the song a lot. The lyrics are exactly like the title of it, even if you don’t treat me that well and is bad towards me I will still love you. I think this is close to real life but I think I have a limit to it unlike what was said in the song. Like if she treated me really really bad then I would break up with her (laughs).

At this time I think I’m going to follow you guys to each event as much as I can because after the new year I have to focus on school and the exams coming up.
That’s good, you should stop following us at the events and focus more on your schoolwork, I want you guys to focus on studying and your education. We won’t run off anywhere and once you are done with school then you can come and see us. There was this one time when I went to go film a commercial and there was a fan who skipped school to come see us and I felt really bad. So I told that fan that next time I don’t want to see them again because they are missing school and I said that the fan can see me after they are done with school. The fan was still really young and I think just started high school too. And the fan promised me that they won’t skip school anymore.

I want to actually see K-OTIC just once because it’ll probably be the happiest day of my life. If I see you I’ll probably want to hug you.
If you have that many pictures of me in your room then I’ll hug you myself.

The weather isn’t so great right now and I want you do take care of your health and I want you to know that I will support you and K-OTIC. I might not be a real important or significant person but I just want to be 1 more person to support and love K-OTIC.
All the support and love that I’ve received has the most meaning to me and is also important to me.

I want to thank you so much for cheering me on and I want you to pass the message on to the other fans as well. If I’ve ever disappointed you guys then I apologize because at certain events there are a lot of people and I could’ve missed a couple of people when greeting you guys. Or if we are in a rush and our team rushes us to our van, it doesn’t mean that we don’t want to stop and talk to you guys, I just want you to know that I as well as the other members do want to stop and chat but during that situation or time we weren’t able to.
