hi bluebubblez,
im currently on yasmin and i havnt gotten any bad symptoms. its a very low dosage pill like many in the market these days.
what may work for me may not work for you. so it really depends.

you may go to your doctor and ask her for a perscription and try it out for a month etc.
if you like it then i suggest you buy the 3month supply box with repeats so you can estimate how many you need during your stay in Korea and stock up. yasmin is pretty expensive though compared to other BC pills. And i dont think its covered by insurance either. so yeah; its up to you whether you still want it or not.

i suggest you take it everyday even if your overseas no matter what reason you are using BC pills for.

^ Like the poster above said, every pill is different for every person. You need to consult your doctor about different options. Also, I was told that you need to try a brand of BC for at least 3 months to see if it's right for you, because all BC have the possibility of side effects when you first start them. Some brands may give you clear skin BUT have other side effects (like dryness), or some brands may cause you to gain weight, etc. I also heard of a case of a girl who had bad side effects with EVERY BC brand she tried o.O But that's rare, I think.

Basically, it prevents pregnancy. It does it by preventing ovulation (release of egg from female body) + making the egg unable to latch onto the walls of the uterus (thus making pregnancy impossible) + thickening mucus in the cervix/vagina (so sperm can't get into your body to fertilize the egg). Hmm I hope I'm explaining this right but the pill just uses hormones to basically cause infertility temporarily.

Anyhow wikipedia can it explain it better than me, though more scientifically:

Oh yea and some brands some clear up acne (one of my friends says it makes her skin "glow"). It also regulates periods and helps lessen the pain of cramps.

Also I think this thread should be in the Health/Fitness section... or the "for girls only" thread in there.

Hormonal birth controls usually prevent ovulation. It basically does this by suppressing the hormones responsible for devloping and triggering the egg to be released (basically preventing a LH surge). Progesterone alters the cervical mucous thickness to immobilize sperm or changes the endometrium so that it's unfavorable for implantation.

you'll just have to pick a birth control trial by error. They all work at contraception but each person has different side effects. Yasmin might work well for your acne. You can try it out. If you are going on vacation go ask your doctor to write for 3 packs at a time. If you insurance doesn't cover 3 at a time you can ask if they allow vacation overrides.

I was on it for about 6 months, but I switched back to orthotricyclen-lo. Yasmin made me extremely moody, but it never occured to me that it was the cause of it. My periods lasted longer on yasmin--during the inactive pill week, my period would come really late, then it would last through my first active week. Like someone mentioned before, just try it out for 3 months. It may work better for you.

I used Yasmin for a year before I stopped. It is a diuretic, which means it makes you have to pee all the time. I could not sit through a lecture or go to a movie without having to get up and go to the restroom! It was SO. ANNOYING. Also, during my first week of each month, I wouldn't really eat anything. I remember just eating an orange one day and then one bowl of soup the next--it was bizarre but I had NO DESIRE to eat anything. The next three weeks, I would eat fine, but yeah...that first week of each month was crazy.

It also made me sick while drinking--couldn't have a glass or two of wine without spending the next 5 hours in the bathroom, vomiting my guts out. But all 3 of my BCs made me do that (Ortho-Evra, Yasmin, and OTC-Lo).

I can't tell you anything about Yasmin (I had zero symptoms on Mircette and Desogen), but you should just take a couple packs to Korea. How long are you visiting?? It's probably less than 3 months, so just bring some and don't go through the hassle of trying to get it in Korea.

i disagree. i think in the world that we live today, it is important for men to understand these issues because it ultimately affects men as well.

taking "the pill" with alcohol is perfectly fine, though some pills might make it feel worst..

I've been on Seasonale ever since I started going on birth control, but I recently switched to Seasonique. There wasn't a reason; my doctor just sent me Seasonique instead one day.

Birth control never really affected me (other than the whole no-pregnancy thing, of course). I never gained weight, got spots, grew tits, had mood swings, etc. My friend went on Seasonale after I recommended it, but she ended up getting extremely emotional, so she switched. As mentioned before, the effects are different for everyone.

i didn't like it. i was depressed and cranky all the time. i switched back over to orthro tricyclen lo right after and i've been happy with it for the past 4 years.
