Amisha Patel
Amisha Patel (born 9 June 1977) is an Indian actress who works in Bollywood movies. She was born in Mumbai. She is an alumna of the Cathedral and John Connon School where she was head girl for the academic year 1992-1993.
Early Life

Amisha Patel is the daughter of Amit Patel and Asha Patel, sister of Ashmit Patel and the granddaughter of the famous Indian lawyer Rajni Patel. She received a degree in Economics from Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts, US. She also studied classical Indian Bharatnatyam dance.

Her name Amisha was derived from the first three letters of her father's name Amit and the last three letters of her mother's name Asha. Her brother Ashmit's name was also derived similarly first three letters of his mother's name Asha and the last three letters of his father's name Amit.

She caught the eye of Bollywood director Rakesh Roshan at a Mumbai party. He signed her to appear with his son, Hrithik Roshan, in his next film project.
Film Career

She made her debut in the hit film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000). The film made her a star overnight. She appeared next in the surprise success, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. These two successes were followed by a series of films that did badly at the box-office. Critics said that she was a mediocre actress. However, she received good reviews for her work in Aamir Khan's recent hit film, The Rising (2005).
Personal Life

Her name is a blend of Ami[t] and [A]sha, the first names of her parents. She was raised by her grandmother Nani. She grew up speaking three Indian dialects, Hindi, Gujrati and Marathi -- sometimes in the same sentence.

She is said to have a strained relationship with her parents and brother, Ashmit Patel (his name is also a blend of Ash[a] and [A]mit). She is dating Bollywood director Vikram Bhatt.

General

You should never be scared to acheive your dreams 'coz dreams do come true!

Do beleive in your dreams 'coz dreams do come true.

Richard Gere is my dream date

If someone talks bad about me it only goes to show that the person feels insecure. I don't manipulate. I don't carry dabbas for directors.

Even if I wasn't an actress and I walked into a party with friends, I'd still have men gaping at me and undressing me in their minds.

Education is never a waste. It is something which has shaped my personality and has made me the ‘me’ I am.

People bring you up so fast...But they bring you down even faster.
About Friends, Family & Co-Stars

Had I not made it big, my family would have told me to recheck my decision. Now that I am successful, there is no way. They have to accept it gracefully.

I'm lucky that I haven't been left out in the cold like Anjala Jhaveri or Meghna Kothari.

Kareena and Aishwarya are beautiful, and talented. But it hurts when I lose a project to them because I'm equally qualified.

If you see Hrithik and me shooting together, you will notice that the chemistry has only gotten better. We are lot more comfortable with each other.

I didn't bad mouth anybody. It's just that when I saw the film, I felt that the film was totally made for Hrithik.

I wish I were half as hot and talented as Bipasha. It’s because of her physical appearance that she’s getting the kind of roles going her way and I’m doing those that require delicate looks.

As far as Karan Johar’s show is concerned, it has to be taken with a pinch of salt. I think that was more of a fun show than anything else. I’ve taken whatever that was said on it in my stride and just laughed it off. None of it has affected me at all and I don’t hold anything against anyone.
Films & Career

Films were never on my agenda, may be it was written in my destiny. And since I am here, I would like to give it my best try.

I am happy I have competition. It keeps me on my toes all the while and stops me from becoming complacent. So, it works to my advantage.

Kaho Naa... was a love story and a love story needs a girl as much as it needs a boy, right?

I would never deny the importance of the media, but I wouldn't go out of the way to splash my pictures all over town. I'd rather let my work do the talking.

I don't want to have to sit with my kids, 10 or 15 years down the line, watching my old films and knowing this is how I got it.

BOLLYWOOD SPEAKS

Anil Sharma (Director)

She is a very talented and hardworking girl.
Hrithik Roshan (Actor)

She is very talented.
Kareena Kapoor (Actor)

I thought she was smashing in Gadar. I even called her up to tell her that. But her mobile is always on voice mail.
Rakesh Roshan (Director)

Amisha is a good dancer, she was confident from day one. She is very talented. The whole unit wondered how she could perform so well without any formal training or background.
Rocky S

She looked gorgeous in Humraaz and the saris she wore became quite a rage. She can carry off both western and Indian clothes very well but I prefer her in western outfits. And now that she has lost a few kilos, she’s looking like a million bucks in all my clothes.
Sunny Deol (Actor)

Amisha's a nice girl and extremely talented. We got along well.
Tanuja Chandra (Director)

She is urban so she has that crossover look. She wants to get somewhere and works with an extraordinary zeal and determination.
Vimal Kumar (Director)

Amisha is good in comedy. She’s very punctual and is always eager to learn.

She's not my cup of tea although she does have nice thick hair. Her features aren't as fine as my other favorite bollywood actresses, but yeah, she's got nice hair smile.gif
