So I've been doing 150 [50 front, 50 side, 50 side] crunches every single night for some months,
and some of my friends are telling me to stop doing that cause they say it doesn't do anything at all..
But then I tell my coach that I do crunches and she said that its good.
So what are your opinions on doing crunches?
I don't think they do nothing at all, I'm sure they do something....but I'm not sure what to think :/

if you're doing them the right way then they should be affective
i do 50 front, L side, R side, R leg up, L leg up, both legs up, and then legs bent like if i were sitting in a chair
but i get lazy and stop doing them for awhile
so i havent seen results on myself yet

The main question is...are those 150 crunches difficult for you to do? If they are, keep doing them until they stop being difficult, and then add more crunches or some resistance to the mix. They're NOT going to get you ripped, get you toned, make you lose weight, etc. What they WILL do is increase the size of the muscles themselves (no, they can't get freakishly big) and give you greater muscular endurance in that area (very important if you do ANY physical activity, which judging by your statement about your coach, you do).

They're definitely not useless. Thousands of boxers do crunches as part of their daily regimen. These are some of the fittest individuals in the world - they've gotta be onto something.

And yes, I do them too - along with a slew of other vomit-inducing ab workouts all chained together for maximum cruelty. The core is just THAT important in all-around fitness.

Well, the crunches aren't so difficult that I'll stop doing them. But even though their easy I can still feel it working.
Yeupp, I know the tummy is super important. I've been doing gymnastics for 9 years [still not great at it, haha xD] and nothing can be done without a strong stomach. But thats why my friends are saying to stop because they tell me since I'm practicing a lot, the crunches aren't going to do anything for me, but I still want to kind of argue against that...

It does work, and yes it tones your body.
You just need to give it time. Why do you think guys die doing it? XD

Well not literally 'die', but you get what I'm saying.

Okay, when guys do it, it helps them more, because its statistically proven that guys build or tone muscle faster and easier than women.
I'm on the track and field team so we do like 6000 crunches a day, everyday.
I still have a muffin top.
But at the back of the fridge, I've got a nice rock hard 6-pack.

I've been doing about 80 crunches for the past 3-5 months and it seems to be working. biggrin.gif
A better way to do it is to lift your legs up ; BoA does this and seems like it's working for her (but of course she does other exercise)

It doesn't help but recent studies so there's exercise that target certain areas don't work. Just work out in general. Do crunches but also do other exercises too, aerobics etc. Oh and eat healthy food. That's how you lose weight.

What are you're goals exactly? Why did you choose crunches? What goals do you wish from the crunches? It is sort of difficult to answer your question when we do not know what you are looking for. What are you're goals exactly? Why did you choose crunches? Yes they work like magic. I've been doing 50 every night and my stomach is flat and I can see some muscle tone when I flex. My BMI is around 18.7.

if you've got a flabby belly and you do crunches, you'll definitely be building up muscle, but it won't necessarily tone away your fat.
you can't do spot exercises, you kind of have to exercise your whole body.
try adding atleast 4 or 5 cardio sessions a week, combined with your crunches and you'll definitely start noticing more of a difference!

you have to lift your legs as if your sitting on a chair lying down
it helps u get a better crunch and doesnt hurt ur back as much
they should help if u feel any burn in ur abs
