I had a root canal & wisdom teeth taken out that same day when I was 14. It was triple pain for me.. but all I can say is..
It doesn't really hurt, considering that you will be taking pain killers that the dentist will prescribe you (i had vicodin--never finished the bottle-I still have more than half bottle full left. I stopped as soon as the pain was gone.. which was less than a week for me).. LOL.. but, really, it's not that bad & you don't have to starve. I ate food like an hour after the procedure. Just make sure the food you are eating aren't too hard & chew on the other side of your mouth or wherever the root canal isn't at. Liquid food is usually recommended. I had porridge for 2 days.. and after that I went back to my regular eating habit. My crown came out a month later, but I just pushed it back in and it has stayed on for 8 years now.
When I had the treatment, the most pain I remember having was was before it.. when the local anesthetics was shot into my gums and an hour after I left the dentist office. I swallowed food & took my medications as indicated. After that, everything became a little woozy & painless.
That week, I felt a little pain once in a while, but it didn't kill me. Prescribed pain medication took away the pain in half an hour, and since I had to take it like every 4-6 hours, it wasn't that bad. It only lasted a week.
It might be different for you. I had to take 5 different pills because both of my bottom wisdom teeth were taken out also. I was mainly woozy & drowsy 1/2 the day, so maybe that's why I didn't experience so much discomfort.
Anyway, don't dread so much. If you keep thinking that it will hurt, you'll only be terrified of it.
After I had the root canal treatment, a family friend said, "if you haven't experienced a painful toothache, you shouldn't die." LOL, let's just hope that when your wisdom teeth starts to emerge, you won't be in pain - some people experience pain & some don't.
