Be calm cool and collective.

Sweaty hands is just something you have to maintain.

Wrong. This person has something called hyperhidrosis, which is a medical condition. Hyperhidrosis causes the hands (and sometimes the feet) to sweat profusely. It's estimated that 1/10 people in America have it.

Research it--there are preventative measures, but they are usually expensive and some seem to be painful.

I have sweaty palms AND feet!!
Lots of people have it too!

But my hands tend to sweat when the air's dry and it's super dry in Australia!!

It gets annoying at times especially when I write! My paper gets a bit wet sad.gif

I dread going for interviews or meeting people where I have to shake their hands but I usually wipe my hands when I see a handshake coming!! I know it's still probably a bit moist when they shake my hand but I just pretend like it's nothing and SMILE REAL BIG! but inside I'm like "omg! did s/he think it was sweaty? did s/he think 'omg ew' inside?" and all that

I'm fortunate to have a boyfriend who doesn't care and still wants to hold my hand even though they're a bit moist smile.gif

But yeah anyway!!
Using powder's no good cause sometimes it gets cakey (BOO!)
I remember looking up the internet for home remedies and there's a stuff you can wipe your hands with (supposedly to close the sweat pores) but they never really worked for me!! sad.gif
Maybe they'll work for you!!
I found a link http://www.oohoi.com/natural%20remedy/home...weaty-Palms.htm

This doctor told me once to place my thumb over the palm of the other hand and press this point below my fourth finger but halfway down the palm and just relax
She told me that it'll work and I was really young at the time so I believed her and it seemed to work! But the thing is that sometimes when one palm is dry and the other's still kinda wet (cause u can only press one palm at a time!!)
and most of the time I forget about the pressing and both my hands are dry so I'm not sure if it's mind over matter or something
I haven't done it in a while so maybe I'll start doing it again smile.gif

But I don't get sweaty palms ALL the time so it doesn't bother me that much but always HAVE TISSUES WITH YOU! smile.gif

It sort of sucks. You just have to explain to people about the condition and they'll understand. I do that. They usually do, but yeah, always have tissue or some kind of handkerchief with you.

Whoops I guess I wasn't being very clear on that tongue.gif

Let me do it step by step so it's easier to read!
Try it on our left hand first!
  1. Open your palms so that they face you
  2. Take your right hand and place your right thumb across your left palm
Just right below your fourth finger.
Half way down the 'square' of your palm.
I've done a quick drawing to show you where

So just hold your left palm in that way and press the area lightly with your thumb for a couple of minutes

I cannot guarantee that it'll work or anything
It worked for me in the past (I forgot all about it until this thread showed up)
But I believe it's more of the 'mind over matter' sort of thing cause I believed the doctor
Also note that she's not my doctor or anything. I just mentioned it to her casually and she advised me to try it out.

I hope it works for you!
And I hope it's clearer this time? smile.gif

my sister and I both have sweaty palms, but hers are more severe.
when she's sitting and watching TV or any other activity that doesn't require much...activity, her hands will drip with sweat.
well, they used to, anyways

when she was in the seventh grade, my parents took her to get the surgery and they were getting her ready for the anesthesia, but the nurse told my parents that there's a big risk and a lot of side effects from the surgery, so she ended up coming back home with sweaty palms.

my parents' friend is an acupuncturist (not the big, jabby needle kind) and he is really amazing. he can fix anything and everything...I don't know how he does it, but it's unbelievable.
they told him about her and he told them to bring her in because he could treat it, and what do you know?

it's really quick and painless
my sister went to see him three times a week for three or four months. at first, there were no changes, but she tells us that her hands are completely dry now, no matter what she is doing.
I'm super jealous of her ><
guess I'll have to start acupuncture! hahaha

Yeah, it's a huge hindrance for so many things. Like other people mentioned--just shaking someone's hand can stress you out (like in church, during the peace part!), not to mention other things like dancing, trying to do chin-ups in gym class, playing the piano, etc. God, and the whole thing about dating someone...I was so nervous that I didn't want to date anyone at all. Luckily, I got a boyfriend who is really chill and doesn't care about it at all.

I am pretty surprised to see this many people who have this condition because I too have this condition...

When I had it checked out from a doctor he said that this might have caused by some kind of childhood trauma. This may not be the cause but I am sure it contributes to it...My parents divoriced when i was 3 so for a bit while i was growing up, I was pretty messed up (depressed with anxiety etc). I'm good now though...

Anyway, yeah it is very embarrassing to shake holds or do anything without having sweat coming out of your palms. It does get in the way of one's social life but luckily for me, I dont have much of a problem and my friends dont care.

If anyone can find some kind of method or any kind of medication to reduce perspiration, please post! That would be great! Cus at some point this does get kind of irritating...and it does make meeting new people difficult and makes my job moreso!

Now I know what my sweaty hands and feet condition is called. It's not a big deal to me so I've never researched it.

I just maintain being calm and I don't sweat. rolleyes.gif

Is there such a thing as a quick fix for this? I mean I have tried something like drysol but it leaves a really uncomfortable feeling afterwards... Is there any drug you can buy over the counter?
