Does anyone know about what it takes to become an elementary or middle school teacher? What steps to take, how hard it is to get accepted, etc., so I get the basic gist?
Also, is it competitive? I go to UW, but I don't know much about its masters program.

If you only want to teach elementary/middle school, you should look into consecutive education (or concurrent if you really want). Consecutive is after the typical four years in post-secondary, and after you've already got a bachelor. Concurrent is done while you're pursuing your other program (for a total of 5 years). You generally apply into concurrent during your first or second year in postsecondary, depending on whether your school even offers it. Either will give you a Bachelor in Education. It's not a graduate program.
Just search for consecutive/concurrent education program and you'll get loads of information.
(Here I'm assuming UW=Waterloo, any place outside Ontario... I'm sorry, I have no idea)

Haha, University of Washington actually!! Funny how so many people on Soompi assume UW stands for Waterloo though, I guess that's a more popular school?
I see I see, I wonder what the acceptance rate is.
And there's a test a teacher has to take?

I don't know much about UW's Education MD program, but I do know that it will be a cake walk to getting a teacher job (not being a teacher) and getting a job virtually anywhere in this country. The job market for teachers is always demanding and always increasing, you guys just get paid like crap. I wish they paid you guys better.

^ Do you know anything about the test? Well, I can do research, but do you know what your friend said about it at all? I have a friend who's planning to be an elementary teacher too, and she says all her classes are really easy and basic. like basic math, basic english, basic history, so I'm guessing the test won't be like SATS or GREs or antyhing rite?

I think it's a competitive program, because alot of ppl are aiming for education in their graduate studies these days. I say talk to someone who is currently in graduate school, trying to get a Masters in Education.
But yeah...I heard UW has an excellent program for education

i think it depends on the state that you want to teach in too...
for example, in california you have to take the CBEST and CSET in order to apply to the grad schools here...
CBEST is kinda similar to the SAT I... and CSET is similar to the SAT II
the RICA is a language test... like phonics and stuff i believe. i haven't taken it yet.
for the GREs it depends on the schools you're apply to..
for UCLA and UCR M.Ed program you don't need the GREs... the program for both of these schools are quite competitive but the program is really good
i know for sure UCI and UCSD needs the GREs... just call the school or look online to see whether or not it is needed. i'm not sure about their program... i heard UCSD's program was pretty competitive.
i heard Stanford has a pretty good program too..
i'm only looking into CA schools... so i'm not sure about out of state schools. sorry for the long post... hahaha
