I just had my appendix removed nearly a week back, and the wounds are still hurting me like mad.
The doctor said I had a close brush with death cause my appendix had ruptured and burst like a week before I was admitted to the hospital. I had this huge tube poke into my tummy to drain off the 'dirty blood' when I was hospitalised and it freaked me out totally.
Now that I am recuperating at home, is there anything that I should avoid doing ? And is there like anything I should avoid eating? Cause the doctor apparently said I could eat anything (provided I have the appetite to which I still don't), but my parents are restricting the food I am eating. Basically I am like eating apples, porridge, pork and fish. ._.'' nothing else for this whole week. LOL...kinda mad to eat the same stuffs for the whole week. And my dad says NO to anything that is cold saying its bad. O.o"
Anyone been thru this and could share their experience ?
Is there any side effects of having the appendix removed? Cus I have a frd who told me aft she got hers removed, she get flu and cough more often. O.o
Thanks in advance.

Know what? The exact same thing happened to my brother. Worse thing was, we went to this neighbourhood doctor first when he complained of stomach pains (it was actually appendicitis), but the doctor told him it was just wind in the stomach and sent him home. !#%#@$%$#%..
But anyway, back to your question. I can't remember what my brother couldn't eat, but from my observation, he didn't have much side effects. I'll go home and ask him and I'll edit my post again. =)
Anyways, get well soon! And I'm not looking forward to your removing the stitches, 'cos I think it's gonna be hella painful. =X Had to accompany my bro to the hospital to do it, and he screamed bloody murder and refused to do it. Hahahahaha...

Generally there are no known side effects to having an appendix removed. There has been recent research to answer why we even have an appendix (because it store bacteria to 'reboot' the intestinal tract if something were to wipe it clean...), but if that is true, then recovering from a intestinal tract problem (such as food poisoning or drinking rubbing alcohol (to an extreme) or so) would require more time... not a big issue.
What you may want to avoid is anything that could cause food poisoning or stomach problems. That means no warm sushi (I know, i was food poisoned badly), undercooked meats, etc. Having your immune system fight these while body is under stress to heal from the surgery isn't a good thing... just make sure you eat something clean (obviously we all want to), and nothing that can pose a threat while you heal from the surgery. Otherwise after that, you're back to normal.

Well, I asked my bro, and he could only remember one thing: "I drank apple juice and I had diarrhea the whole day."
So, well, um. You know. Don't drink apple juice. =X Sorry I couldn't be of much help.
viviians: Lucky you! I don't know what I'd do if I were in your shoes! Lol... I cried like crazy when I came home from school and found out my brother was in the hospital. Hahahaha...

omg i can feel your pain!
I had it removed for about three or four years ago?
omo i just have to tell you all that it hurted like hell and yes it's really dangerous when it comes to a very late stat.
It's not anything that you cant eat. it's just parents, you know asian parents.
i got lucky to get self dissapearing stiches (sp?)
the only thing i advice you to not eat is food that is heavy? haha hard to explain. i think you know what i mean.
oh i ate a lot of ice cream at the hospital. they gave me so that i would get some food into me.
hope that it heals perfecly and you stay healthy!
good luck!
