It was 53 in a 35 zone, but I swear I didn't know the whole road was 35, just the school zone.

So after court, this is what I got:

-Write one 500 word essay on this book that featured teens that died from driving accidents.
-8 hour driving program that cost 150 dollars out of my own pocket.
-150 dollars to the court for this dumb program plus supervising fees every month since now I'm on probation.
-35 dollars each month to my probation officer.
-15 dollars everytime the officer wants me to take a drug test.
-Attend teen victim impact panels monday evenings.
-Next time I get in an accident or get another ticket, my license gets suspended.

In return, the police erases the ticket from my file and doesn't turn it into the insurance company. Doesn't sound like much of a compromise since the total pay of this is probably just as much as the ticket itself. Is this normal? I know that 18 mph over limit is a bit much, but I know people that have done worse and just gotten away with warnings or just had to pay fines. And their speeding was intentional, or at least they knew they were speeding. **** judge didn't even let me decide if I wanted to do this program instead of turning the ticket in. Just automatically enrolled me in and told me I could leave. And I don't see why I have to take excessive drug tests if I pass them each time and I wasn't on drugs when I was convicted.

No swearing please. Read the rules.

But you do know that by paying the ticket, you are stating a guilty plea, which means the point WILL be on your record, your insurance goes up (which I assume your parents pay for) considerably. Actually what you describe is not harsh at all... its much cheaper than paying the ticket and watch your insurance go up (since you probably are a teen driver <18).
If your insurance company finds that you had this ticket (if you paid for it, yes it is a guilty plea and you will have a point on your record), you rates will go up, if not skyrocket (to an amount that is much more than your current fees for this program).

I've taken responsibility for any time I get pulled over or get a ticket for breaking the law, they are there for a reason. There are very few times that I think that I was pulled over and got a ticket for some bs reason.

Situational awareness, you were going faster than the posted speed limit with or without realizing what it was... and driving is pretty much about knowing what is around you and going on. What's up with the probation and drug tests? Sounds like you have some prior run ins with the law... if that is the case then it is obvious why you would have to jump through so many hoops. Have received any other moving violation before and taken traffic school?

From what I know, insurance companies ALWAYS find out if you recieved a ticket or not. They raise your premium disregarding the judgement.

I dont know if this is true or not.... I hope its not.

Oh, and I know if you are out of state and get a ticket in NJ, you can't recieve points on your license.

I got 53 in a 35 last year. Intentional, paid the ticket, nothing else. Dressing nice to court is a good way to get on the judge's good side.

But you plead no contest so that's that.

I remembered doing 50 in a 15 in a school zone once...didn't know there was a cruiser sitting there. I was just happy to drive after being out to sea for 6 months. I totally forgot how to drive stick (RIP 1990 Accord)...ah my younger idiotic years. Cop gave me a speeding ticket, he was cool about it. Just paid the ticket and never went to court. If I got caught, it's because I was stupid. You got to pay to play.

you sped, you're guilty deal with it.

the ticket would normally stay on your record for 3 years, and the insurance companies would murder you, you got off good.

WTF psycho community do you live in? Here they give you a ticket, and then you're short $150 bucks for the next two weeks.

Crazy as hell...are they going to make sure your tires have the correct psi and your washer fluid bottle is full too? Freaking retarded.

i got my first speeding ticket this year in october.
i was speeding (didnt realize i was going that fast) 90 on a 65
then cop pulled me over and said, youre going a bit fast, do you have a good driving record? and i said
"yes i do- this is my first time getting pulled over officer." then he said "tell you what, ill put down on the ticket that you were going 74, instead of 90"
and my heart just skipped i was so happy! he said i could just pay the fine and not get it on my record. and plus he just asked for my license , and didnt even ask for my insurance or registration! so i just paid the fine (97$) i got realll lucky.

but goodluck with your case.

53 in a 35 zone? You were going way too fast.
Imagine getting a speeding ticket for going 50 in a 45 zone. O____O

that is pretty harsh. where do you live??
i went 51 on a 35 speed limit zone and i only had to pay a ticket, and i also opted for traffic school so i wouldn't have a mark. but i didnt have to do anything else. i live in southern california btw, maybe its different where you live.

that does seem very harsh.. i mean i understand a fine and increased points but whats up with the drug testing and probation officer? they treat you as if you had commited a criminal offense. were you previously on probation before or have a bad record of any sort? if so, it should have at least been brought up in court. im not too familiar with the law but you can prob get your punishment reduced somehow... like another court date? i dunno..

and for everyone saying deal with it/you deserved it, what kind of speeding puts you into drug testing and places you under probation in such a way... and for what? yes, speeding is bad and should be punished.. but from where i come from you usually just get a ticket... and your degree of speeding determines the amount of the fine.

200 bucks for no points on your record? i don't think that's bad at all... i had to pay a 400 dollar ticket for doing 95 in a 75 (in the middle of nowhere) and then points transfer from nevada back to my home state... which is lame... i would have taken what you were offered any day.

I live in Gwinnett County in Georgia but I got the ticket in Loganville.

And yeah, I have had previous problems with the law. I guess I just forgot to mention that I had 43 DUIs and always get high before going 140 on the highway...

No, I've never had run ins with the police before, which is what baffles me most about this entire thing. In fact, I always get the good student discount on my insurance and took drivers ed before I got my license. It was my first offense. Wasn't bumping music too loud, wasn't switching lanes like a madman, no reckless driving, just plain speeding. Its not like I deliberately sped up so that I could see how many kids I could smash with my car...Of course I was going to slow down at the school. I just thought that the road before it was a 45. Damn officer even had my license to write the ticket and he could see that it was going to be my birthday in a week, but I guess he didn't care. An early present, I suppose.

Ahh whatever, I'm not too bent up on it anymore. I'm almost done and should be off probation this month. I thought my life sucked but then I met a guy in my collision avoidance class who got a ticket and had to do the same things I did for going 6 MPH OVER THE SPEED LIMIT. rofl.

how can you have 43 dui's and still be allowed to drive?
