I guessed it was a simple matter of putting the card in and I thought the computer would find it....

none of that happened. I searched a long time to try and find out how to access the cards but no luck. The cards are unlocked so I can access them so now I think the slots are faulty...

is there any way to access them at all?? I don't want to purchase a card reader just to access them.

I'm also using Vista. I've been trying to acess my camera's SD card and NDS mini SD card

Please help. I will be forever grateful!

edit:
The first time I tried was the first night I had the computer and didn't work....and it's a HP a6040a

edit2:
I think I'll call up HP if I can get it fixed under warrenty....I definately thinks its faulty assembly...

I guess this thread can be closed.

TY to baduy for explaining what I should see if it worked

And so it should. Has this ever worked before? I mean did you use to be able to read cards in those slots, or is this the first time you tried? If you never tried before, the cable from the reader unit may not be plugged into the motherboard connector properly.

So did you get it new? This sounds like an assembly fault that should be seen to under warranty. If your cards are known working as you say and you've double checked you are are putting them the right way round into the right slot, you should see or hear a brief moment of disk activity after you insert the card, then in My Computer you should see that card listed under "Devices with removable storage" and be able to open up the files on it like on any attached drive.
