Anyone planning to major in psychology? I'm graduating from High School this year and by January 2008, my applications have to be sent. I'm planning to major in psychology cause I'm interested in it but I'm really lost about what I wanna do in the future >>; My mom feels like I'm wasting my time spending 4 years in this program and then study some more eg Social Work to get an actual job whereas other ppl who are taking eg accounting etc, gets a job quicker than me. Am i wasting my time? And is it possible to get a job in something after 4 years of psychology? Anyone else on the same path as me? =P

Career wise, I think jobs for Psychology graduates are quite big (according to the job opportunity list for psychology graduates that I read and observing the demand of job market)
You can be a counselor, social worker and etc ...
Psychology has many branches as specializations: Early Childhood, Health, Social, Industrial, Forensic and etc ..
Selecting a major is quite tough ...
I'm confused either to major in Psychology or Sociology. Ugh.

You can basically major in anything and have a career that's totally different from what you majored in. Ted Turner, a billionaire, majored in Classic (mythology stuff) and he's a well known business man and I believe he even own a sports team. Also, Michael Jordan was a Geology major and he became a professional basketball player.

My mom double majored in Psychology and Sociology and now works in Human Resources. You could try that route. She really stresses getting your Masters, or Ph.D if you're going into clinical psych, because the job market is flooded with psychology majors looking for work.

You wouldn't really be considered as a psychologist until you get a PHD.
