Well..recently my net has been a pain.
About three weeks ago, my internet suddenly mucked up and sites won't load, images won't load.
I called up my ISP and they told me to get a new filter.
I didn't get the filter..cause a couple of days later my internet was back up again.
However, my internet kept going down and being normal again.
I just ignored it, it wasn't that hard to withstand.

But suddenly today...
my internet started to disconnect and disconnect by itself O_O.
(I'm on a 256kbps ADSL connection at the moment; wired)
It's never happened before and I've had my internet for a year a bit.
So I called up my ISP and this time what they said was incredible! Bravo to them dry.gif
The consultant I had told me that it wasn't the INTERNET's fault..and I'm like thinking..WTH?
There's no way that its all the computer settings!
Yeah..and he told me to find a friend who is good with 'computers' to help...dry.gif OMG!

SO yeah...guys.
I really need help.
If you need any further info about my internet, I would love to respond to you.
Please leave replies and help out T___T
I can't finish off my assignment because of the stupid internet T___T

thanks <3333

Try the tools on DSLReports. They should test your speed and other settings.

The filter shouldn't affect your connection speed but it should affect other phone line usage (ie phone calls, fax, etc).

Are you going through a router?

They normally tell you to do a power cycle (?), which is just shutting down everything, unplugging it, waiting 30 seconds, then replugging everything back. Normally this fixes whatever issue one might have.

Sounds like you need a friend who's good with ADSL. They are a bit harder to find. ADSL is delivered slightly differently and has different gotchas in different countries. I really only know about European setups first hand (and in the Philippines second hand). And I imagine you're in the US?

Still...

What sort of gadget connects your PC to the line? Is it connected to your PC by a USB wire or by an Ethernet lead? Does it have status lights? Is one of them marked "Synch" (it's usually colored green). If so, when you lose your connection, does that light go off?

Does your connection device (often called a "modem" but that's strictly speaking not the right word for a DSL interface) have a built-in web interface that you can bring up in your browser? If it's a combined modem-router it almost certainly does. That interface will have some sort of page marked "Status" which will tell you the state of your DSL connection. It might give some clues. If you don't know whether your modem has a Web interface or not, can you give us the exact make and model, in case docs are available from a maker's site?

Do any of your close neighbors have ADSL (not necessarily from the same ISP). If so, have they been having similar problems?

Has anyone in or near your house recently started using equipment that generates a lot of radio frequency interference (= something with a fairly hefty electric motor)? That can really screw up DSL, though its normally only faster lines than yours (say 2M+) that are badly affected.

When your ADSL link goes down, can you still use the line for voice connections? If you can, are there any unusual cracklings or buzzings on the voice line around the time you lose the Net?
