my brother the cheap douchebag bought me a 06 civic bcoz it was hail damage and cheap, but its a manual and i dont know how to drive manual and been complaining for him to get rid of it and buy me a cheap auto like a jazz or something but he refuses. So i have only 2 option keep complaing or learn how to drive it. So i was wondering how long does it take a girl who got her p's 2 months ago to learn how to use and drive a manual. is it much easier to drive a manual since the car is a newer model because i tried a 99prelude once and couldnt even get out of the driveway.

There's something about Preludes that made it hard for me to drive it. I was trying to drive my friends 00 Prelude and I just kept stalling.

Anyway, hold the clutch all the way in and let off very very slowly until it starts creeping. Remember how far you left off, gas it a little and even out with your clutch. So, you're letting off the clutch and getting on the gas.

For the first few times, KEEP LETTING OFF THE CLUTCH SLOWLY, EVEN AFTER IT STARTS CREEPING. (This will allow the car to take off more smoothly, and not jerky...so it will be less intimidating for first time drivers) After it starts creeping, give it a little gas, but remember to continue to let out the clutch slowly. After a while you can let out the clutch a little faster once it "grabs", but for the time being, if you do what I suggested, it should help your learning process.

Oh, and learn on the newer civic.

I got it on my first try. I learned by playing games though so I might have some knowledge prior to driving a manual.

if you're just learning... i would suggest having someone who already knows how to drive stick to take you to an empty parking lot to practice. you can watch their technique on the way there. i got my car, and had to learn how to drive it within 2 days before i had to drive the 70 mile trip to school...

Packed where..? Anyways, yeah.. if you played some of the games with the manual cars, it helps.

Or have someone that drives manual teaching you, while you're driving. That works very well.
Especially since you're the driver itself.

I don't know about you but playing Initial D never really helped me learn how to drive stick.

stpping on a hill is scary the first time, so i hope you are prepared for that, especially when its bumper to bumper traffic on a hill.

You should be happy you got a car for free (I'm assuming). An 06 should still be very good mechanically.

Everyone has a different learning curve. For me it took 2 sessions, both about an hour. just make sure you learn in a low traffic area with as much clearance as possible. Tell us how it goes!

i think it depends on the car you are driving?
i learned on my friends 87 3 series and that was pretty much torture for me.
Sometimes when people get rejected by humans they regress into a love of animals and even secretly wish they could be one of them. When that animal is a manatee you know the teasing was really, really bad.

it doesnt take all that long to learn, it might take you longer to get good at it - but just keep driving. I learned in one night but it took me a few weeks to actually get a good feel for the way things worked. Keep in mind everyone's car is different too, so learn to drive YOURS dont learn on someone elses! =] Heh stick shift is a lot more fun than auto anyways once you get used to it .. the only problems i ever had was when it came to down shifting ^^; .. no one really taught me that, daddy took me around the neighborhood once in my car and then i was on my own -__-" its kinda scarey at first, the important thing is not to get nervous or anxious, especially when your one a hill - ppl always tend to freak out ... lol practice on your drive way if its sloped. luckily i live in houston and we dont have hills =D g'luck!

ps. youtube probably has some good tutorial vids on driving manual ^-^

it doesnt take long as long as you pay attention to the person teaching you...xD its pretty easy with the 06 civic...alot easier compared to my friend's integra. XD you can possibly go to an empty parking lot or around the block of your house...it wont take more than a week maybe 2days tops
