but will it affect my acceptance by a lot? i'm soo scared, i feel like i'm going to be rejected because of this D, even though i'm explaining to them that there's a good reason for it. Can you still be accepted to UCs with like Ds? T_T
do they count the new grade or old grade in gpa calculation?

She told me who UCSD admits are based on points. Like for example, 200+ hours of activities are worth 300-400 points. Playing a sport or being on a sports team gets you 100-200 points. Getting a perfect 4.0 is something like 700 points, Stuff like that, like you know what I mean. Anyhow, the people with the highest amount of points who apply to UCSD are admitted. And family deaths are worth alot of points. Like 500-600 points. I think you should be fine, the points from the family death should make up the points missed for the D.
If I sound shallow, I apologize. =/ Don't shoot the messenger.
But I am very sorry for your loss.

I think it's okay if your reason is a good one, moreover, you took the time to make it up so it looks even better. It shows that you actually care. I got a D in a course and I'm retaking it this year too. x_x;;
As long as I am in the clear with God, my family and my fans, it is sufficient for me. Jay Park

0_o... So someone dying in your family is worth more than playing a sport and volunteering... Wow that sounds kind of messed up.....
Anyways, one of my friend's brother was accepted into Duke, got a D in some class (I think it was AP Physics) and was diagnosed with clinical depression and they didn't rescind his admissions. Of course he had a very strong resume, but I think they forgive. Although from what I've heard, they'd much rather see you do the same and overcome the tragedy to do well.

No. Someone dying in the family cannot be make up while sport and volunteer can make it up. I'm sure you will do fine.

Sorry if my post sounded inconsiderate. When I wrote it I thought it went for extended family also, so that would be like a distant uncle's death would count in that.
Sorry XD

i'm at a UC right now, got into like 3/7 UC's that i applied for and had a 3.1 gpa. i got 7 D's in high school. i think your in the good
i would say it depends on the UC u want to get into, if it's like berkeley or LA, i don't think so but any others, long as the rest of your stats are good (class position, gpa, sat's, community service) u should be ok for most other UC's. not sure about the policy but acceptance rate is just really hard to get into those schools

I thought that colleges ask for your high school transcripts after you get in, and if you have a D or an F you can get your acceptance revoked.

Usually one poor grade won't affect you that much, so you need not worry.
