So I tripped during a tennis match and the athletic trainer at the school we were at said I didn't break any bones or anything, just that I sprained my ankle. He said if I put ice on it and elevated it, it should go away in a week or so. A week later, the pain did go away.

But here's the problem.

When I went swimming and had to wear flippers, my left ankle ( the one I sprained) wouldn't stay straight and kept turning to the side. I couldn't control it either b/c it kinda hurted. I didn't say anything though because I didn't want to cause a seen. Plus it didn't hurt much either. Then when I was in P.E. once, I was turning my foot towards each other. I notice that my left wouldn't turn as much as my right and it use to be able to.

Does anyone know why this is? Should I tell my parents about it or something?

Thanks in advance.
Tennis isn't just an obsession.

yes, you should tell your parents and also your atheletic trainer as well. if it persists or starts hurting again, go see a doctor. dont ignore such things which are seemingly small!!

when did you sprain it from the tennis match?
i believe that it has not fully healed
and if it's been a long time...it wasn't heal properly.
^ that is happening..you gotta stop or put less stress on yourself and your ankle to help speed the proces..
i'd say take like up to at least a week or a couple days before doing any kind of activities..
i had a similar problem how it just started to hurt after a while =\
people said once you hurt it...it'll always be weak and easily be injured again (does that even make sense)

oh...btw..try some massaging muscle cream? haha SOMETIME it works..only SOMETIME =P
hope it'll feel better so you can continue your sports...injuries sucks! i have many of my own =(

It hasn't fully healed.
Same thing happened to me. What should've been a two-week process ended up being a month and a half because I was putting a lot of pressure on the ankle that I sprained, when I really should have been using my crutches and keeping off that ankle. So it ended up twisting toward the other foot and it would hurt like heck.

I think you should wrap it, keep it elevated, and don't use that ankle for a bit.

Obviously you should get it checked on before it worsens.

Uhhh, yea you should tell your parents before it gets worse..
Do you have an ankle brace?
If you do, you should wear that to try to keep it straight until you see a doctor.
And always do RICE~

Rest
Ice
Compress
Elevate

it hasnt healed completely, usually sprained ankles, the pain of walking goes away in that week but completely healed takes a few more...dont put alot of stress or pressure on it, and try to not run or use your ankles past a certain degree and you'll be fine. if it worsens consult a doctor

since it hasnt healed completely you really need to rest it

i just hurt my ankle not too long ago and if you are going to be running around you really should be wearing a brace
so it will keep your ankle in the correct position (you can get one at walmart)

and to strengthen your ankle my trainer told me to put hold up my whole leg
and only using my ankle draw the ABCs once a day lol
sounds kinda stupid but it really does help

and if you are going to try that make sure NOT to use your leg but your ankle to do it

to add...dont wear an ankle brace for just walking around
either use those wrapping tape or ankle tensor stuff
also if you have shoes with a higher ankle support. were those instead of like flats or something for a while =\

...ABC totally works too

i did not see a doctor, neither a chinese doctor who will kind of twist your ankle back to place. i just put some sprain plasters. it remained slightly swollen for more than a month, and there will be a mild pain if i put it at some angle. my father said doctor wasn't necesary sleep.gif but after so long, like probably 2 months my ankle is well. i sprained it before when i was 7 and my father just rubbed some kind of medicated oil. but i think, to see the doctor is always safer.

you should put your ankle in the COLDDDD water thingy in the athletic trainers room, it can help
and if it gets worse, go do acupuncture. you blood could be clotted. that's what happened to me when i sprained my ankle.
T___T but it got better right when i finished acupuncture.
