so i just passed my road test like a few days ago and i now have my junior license since i'm still 16 (i'm from ny)
my parents aren't letting me drive the suv cus they think i'm going to crash it or get hit by another car in that since it's big
so i'm stuck driving the old crappy car, which is a 1994 acura
i'm like fine with it cus it's not like about to breakdown, it's pretty good, but the paint is a little messed up on it =P
i wanna get it repainted and then i'll be contentttt because it would look so much better sweatingbullets.gif

so i was just wondering
how can you know if a place will give good paintjobs?
how much do they usually cost?
and does it like fade and get messed up easier?

thank you :]

$300 from maaco

$2000-2500 for a good paint job minus everything in-between (not from maaco)

If it's a beat up 1994 Acura, you might as well not bother to deal with the paint job because in the end, you're going to chip the paint, swipe the paint, and crash the whole entire car.

That's my best suggestion for you if you want to save money. You're better off spending that few hundreds on something else.

I get caught up with paint on all of my cars. You won't care after a month or two though. I bet you'll look back and thank everyone who told you not to paint it : ).

Seriously, just save your money. It doesn't feel that much better to have better looking paint on a beater car. You're probably going to get some more paint scratches anyway.

Well if it must look better, at least try washing the car, polishing it like crazy, and waxing over it... it will look better if the paint isn't that bad.

Its just like my situation right now, I cannot justify painting and repairing the dings and dents on my car (well actually one dent, because of a hit and run and its really minor), because I know that if I do repair it, it will occur again and become a drain on my wallet. Although there are situations where I would consider paint. Recently I got into a stupid accident with my car and pole, damaged the driver side fender, and had to replace it. The replacement part is an aftermarket (which i somewhat regret) and only comes primed. In order prevent rusting, I have to get it painted. So the fender was cheap like $120, but the paint (with clearcoat), was $450, just for that one panel! Color matching was out of the question if I really wanted to spend more $$$ to match it. This is getting pricy for a car thats only worth a bit less than $4K.

I'd say if the panel isn't rusting away as we speak, don't even bother with it, just give it a nice polish and wax to protect it (or whatever is left of it) and let it be.

If you have a couple hundred to spend, then go ahead and get it painted. From what I hear it ranges from $300-500 for a low end job.

I would sand and primer it yourself if you can. For a cheap paint job they will either just paint over the old paint, or do a crappy sanding and priming job.

When we say a crappy paint job, we mean.............. really crappy, so beware.

Doing the prep work before hand makes all the difference, esp if you are going to get a cheap paintjob

I believe he is just emphasizing the age of the car. It is about 14-15 years old. I can't believe mine is over 10 years old now. These Japanese cars age well.
