Im confused with whether to get ipod classic or creative zen..
I hear pros and cons for both but i really dont know which one to get
Maybe soompiers can help me to decide?

Heres what i need actually:

1) Able to read Korean text
2) Lotsa spaces for videos (watching bigbang performances etc)
3) Recording if there is
4) Sound loud enough? good sound?
5) Good quality after converting videos?

I know Creative zen is like only 16gb or 8gb, and ipod classic got like 80gb, but zen has good qualities too..
someone help me!

i had a zen but now i'm selling it to get an ipod because i bought some weird edition from SG which means i dont have a warranty for it in uk. but i still prefer the zen.

1) most mp3/4s have diff languages nowadays
2) ipod:80gb&160gb; zen:30gb&60gb
3) zen has not sure about ipod, but probably will do
4) depends what loud enough is, but i think if you get it in asia theres like a limit to how loud it can be, but in the west its a little louder
5) maybe it was my laptop, maybe it was the video files, but the zen software didnt really convert them. but quality is great.

ive owned a ipod video, which is identity to the new ipod class, so ill comment:

ipod classic 80/160
  1. it can read korean.
  2. the 80/160gb will definitely space for your vids.
  3. thres no recording function, although theres accessories you can plug into the bottom, id imagine.
  4. the sound can go really loud
  5. it supports pretty high bitrate vids for the res of screen it has.
now the one thing about the classic..is that it only supports .mp4(h264/mpeg4) format. i believe the zen suports divx/xvid, wmv, mpeg1/2 AND mp4. so i would argue that even though the zen is smaller in size, its definitely more suitable for watching vids. i hate converting vids for my ipod...its such a pain and my computer is getting old (p4 3.2ghz) so it takes a while to convert a whole series. most shows/vids i get are in avi (divx) format, so if i had a zen, i could just drop it on...but with an ipod, i hafta convert beforehand.... im not too sure about zen's unicode capability though (can it read korean?)

and btw, are you talking about the creative ZEN? or the creative ZEN vision W?

First of all id like to point out that u are only comparing the Creative Zen (which only onlds , either 4gb, 8gb or 16gb). Its basically targeting a different market . You should be comparing the Creative Zen Vision M (which can hold both 30 , 60 and 80 gb) to the Ipod classic . So to answer ur question

1) Yes
2)Yes( depending how many videos and how large they are )
3)Yes(mic recording, radio recording)
4)Creative is very well known for their audio products, they mainly make audio products
5) Superb quality, it has a way better LCD screen quality then Ipod Classic

So to conclude, Id definately recommend the Creative Zen Vision M over the ipod classic any day. Being able to convert videos is such a breeze compared to the lacking video format support that the apple ipod classic has. SO, this means less time waiting for your videos to convert to the supported format and more watching smile.gif

zen vision M yes

zen no XD

all creative products: awesome sound. and for the ones that has video: awesome screen. more vibrant than the Ipod screen smile.gif

it's up to you haha. Ipods are more popular with people overall since it's apple and...yea
even though I own an ipod nano, I still like creative more xP

This shouldn't be hard to decide at all.

You can decide how much space you need for your videos. If you need a lot, then obviously the iPod. The ZEN has voice recording while the iPod doesn't. Everything else in your list is a yes for both players.

So, which is more important to you? Voice recording or more space for your videos? You decide.

I was actually in this exact dilemma. I was getting one or the other for Christmas this year. In the end I decided on the iPod classic. Think about it, they're both pretty much the same price, but one has 80 gigs while the other has 16 gigs. :/

The iPod Classic has more hard drive storage space, but apparently the player gets extremely laggy and doesn't perform very well if you actually put a lot on it. rolleyes.gif Kind of defeats the point. And you can get big Creatives, too, not just the newest 8 and 16 gig versions. The Zen Creative will also be compatible with more audio and video file formats without conversion, and you won't need to use iTunes or another player-compatible program to sync media since the Creatives can act as drag-and-drop hard drives. Also, the Creative has voice recording and the iPod Classics don't if that really matters to you. The screen on the iPod Classic is not as big, either.

I'd say the Zen Creative, especially since you can actually get 30 gig versions, maybe even bigger.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

hi all! thanks for replying
the reason why i chose ZEN not Zen vision cos of the design and zen is much lighter and slimmer..
im a person who watches videos often so im thinking of getting ipod classic
but i heard that the sound isnt that good and theres alot of videos that ipod classic cant support?
zen i heard can even support .dat files..
im so confused between this two..
actually if we convert, each video prob takes up about 50mb for example..we can put quite alot for 8gb?
what most matters to me is the korean text, video (clear), jogging and it wont jerk, and maybe when converting it wont take a long time doing conversion?

but comparing these two what do u all suggest? which one should i get?

Most vids you'll find in avi-divx format...so since the zen can play them natively then thats probably the one you want as i said above. Unleess you want to spend h converting

Well , if you want to sacrafice capacity for slimness , thats your choice. 8gb isnt a liot for videos (that is if you put music in therre as well) . I still recommend you get the Creative Zen Vision M 30/60/80GB, because really the thickness of it isnt THAT much bigger compared to the Ipod Classic. So unless you want to spend a long ass time converting videos on the Ipod Classic, thats a decision you have to make too

Zen beats ipod hands down

Zen is known for it's screen quality. If you're a video person, definitly go for creative. It also accepts much more video format than the ipod

I think they should put Zen and Ipod together...
Both devices are good.

I think I'd choose an IPod.

With what I just put in bold letters. The iPod classic is definitely not for you. Hard drive players are not good for sport related exercises. Go with the ZEN if you are going to use it for that purpose also.

What a nice job of insulting someone. Very helpful. rolleyes.gif

Some people aren't tech savy and some are just asking which they should get. This is a tech forum where people ask and discuss. Don't expect everyone here to know a lot about certain things.

I had a Zen Vision M my friend gave me and she gave it to me because her computer stop recognizing it. However I was able to fix it by formating and upgrading the firmware.

The sound and video quality along with battery life are superb.

Better than the ipod classic, only a bit thicker. It's older and has been discontinued.

I suggest looking into the Cowon D2 if you're looking for a flash player. The SD card integratioin with the new Creative Zen isn't good compared to the D2.

Besides Creative, iRiver and Cowon are 2 good audio player companies as well.

They're all Asian companies so they're sure to have foreign language on their players.
-------------

The real question is what do you need it for exactly?

the iPod, Zen, D2 are MP3 Players first that just happen to play video.

You say that you want to watch videos. Watching videos on such a small screen is a pretty dumb idea and strains your eyes.

You'd probably want something like the A2, iTouch, or PSP with a huge screen, but you can't use these for exercise.

What exactly do you want out of your player? You can't have it all.

The best is probably the Cowon D2 or iRiver Clix2 however they only go up to about 8GB (or 16GB with the addition of an 8gb SD card to the D2 - however in the near future 32GB SD cards will come out = 40GB flash memory). For video, music, battery life, slim and small size, and good for exercise.

Get the iPod, seriously.
It's Apple. You can't go wrong with it.

Well I have a vision m, its lasted a while already. In terms of adding accessories, then Apple's the winner. But if you want functionaity, then the ZEN is the way to go.
