So, which brand do you smoke and why? Is it because of the price? The taste? you know, etc.

Used to smoke marlboro reds, about a pack ever 1-3 days. Now I don't smoke cigarettes as much but I do occasionally smoke a hookah.

can you smokers please explain why you started smoking in the first place, and why you continue to smoke?
i've seen a lot of people on soompi say that started smoking, drinking, doing drugs, etc because their friends did it; but are you all really so easily pushed by peer pressure?
i can understand wanting to do various things with a friend you really like, but, really, i wouldn't jump off of a bridge just because my friend wants to.
i've also heard people say they do it to deal with stress, but that seems like a weak excuse to me too.
i can understand wanting to see what it's like to smoke, but i don't think that people need to act on that impulse. i wonder what it's like to lose a limb or die, but i'm not going to actually try and do it...

hmmm...you want an explanation?
i'm not afraid to admit that i started smoking because i thought it was the cool thing to do(can you really blame me? i was a dumb 12 year old boy). plus some of my older siblings were smokers who smoked in the house before i even started smoking. why do i continue to smoke? because i'm addicted to this drug called nicotine that is more addictive than heroin(at least that's what they say).
the 'deal with stress' thing is merely a cheap excuse that a lot of smokers use. not that it doesn't help you deal with stress, because it does...yet it's stressful when you dont have any cigs left and you need one. ironic that the thing used to deal with stress now gives you stress
smoking, after a while becomes a habitual thing. i find myself smoking even when my body doesn't give me any signals telling me that it needs nicotine. smoke when i drive, smoke after a meal, smoke after waking up, smoke before bed, smoke at break when i'm working, smoke when i'm out drinking with friends.
i've been on both sides of the fence, for about a year and half i had actually managed to quit smoking. after i started again though, i notice that i'm smoking more nowadays than i did before i quit. i really wish i had the will power to quit cold-turkey like that again.
my advice for anyone who's quit or is planning on quitting.
"just stop smoking, if you can survive a day without a cigarette; you can go for your entire life without it."
i honestly found the urge to fight my habits the most difficult; even more difficult than dealing with the cravings and depriving myself of the nicotine.

I started smoking after a really bad break up with the ex. I just wanted to smoke, guess it was my way of dealing with it. Was it the best way? probably not, but it's the same thing as someone else drinking to deal with a problem, or working out or whatever other method is used. Now it's more of a social thing. When i'm on a job and a friend wants to have a cig i'll go with them and have a smoke. Not too often though.

this is something i find fascinating about people in general.
i've never had a desire to be the same as someone else, so trying to copy others is not something i really do/did.
at what age would you expect someone to stop "being dumb"?
one thing my mom's friend did to quit (back in the early 90s) was to hold a plastic cig and "smoke" it.
just doing the motions of smoking helped her to cut back. i think she figured that she needed something in her hands, and that just holding that plastic thing was helping her a lot.

I started with Marlboro 27s, quit for about 10 months (interestingly enough, I didn't smoke cigarettes in Korea- trust me, that's a feat), and recently started again with Camel No. 9s and Marboro Lights. I love the taste. I just love smoking, I guess.
It's obviously horrible for me. I'm pre-med, and if I didn't know my own hypocrisy, I would have failed out of school years ago. I go through about 2 or 3 cigs a day, usually for um... bathroom purposes and falling asleep at night. Ha.

used to smoke kent deluxe lights - they changed their name to kent blue a couple years later, and a couple years after that they changed their name to kent futura. i liked them because they were the smoothest cigarette that were still reasonably strong.
i haven't been a smoker for years but i still sometimes get cravings and buy a pack - it's an excuse to take some time out by yourself in a public place, it just doesn't feel right to sit down in a busy area and not do anything

For me it WAS stress.
It wasn't peer pressure. I started smoking in high school when I was applying to colleges. Nobody else around me smoked at all.
In college, I was the usually the only person who smoked. I found that I smoked a lot more in college. Instead of working in my room, I'd go someplace and smoke while I studied. Everyone told me to quit. I told them to mind their own business. Still smoke now that I'm working, but for some reason my life isn't as stressful now and I only smoke occasionally...takes me a week to go through a pack whereas before I'd smoke up to a pack a day (usually a pack every 2-3 days, though).

So folks can get a breaky from their stressful lidey lives
And relaxy with the cigarettes we make all day and night
I like to have a cigarette every now and then
It makes me feel calmer when the day is at an end.
And if it gives me cancer when I'm eighty I don't care
Who the hell wants to be ninety anyway?
I only smoke when drinking. Usually marlboro menthol lights.
