to change springboard and to have themes, you need to jailbreak your ipod. and to do that, you need one of the newer firmwares (2.0, 2.01., or 2.02 only -- i cannot provide links, you must find one of these on your own). then use winpwn (windows) or pwnage (mac) and get customize from cydia or installer.

i tried to use spring board. but then it said my jail break needs to be a 1.1.2 or something of that nature.

it works for me. what did you use to jailbreak and what version are you at? (1.14? 2.0? 2.02?). make sure you login using your itunes account too.

How do you know what version the Ipod Touch is? Im thinking of buying one but if I get the new one and there is no jailbreak for it like you said, then I'd want to look for an older version right?

Well the new Itouch version just came out. So I'm just wondering how long it would take for those hackers to get on it.

I think give them a week. Because they will probably wait for the 2.1 to come out for the iphone before releasing the touch version too you can look at the current status here http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ . The new touch does have extra protection, but they can jailbreak the 3g.. (cant unlock but at least jailbreak) so its only a matter of time. Seems popular enough for them to not neglect.

I hear that it might take a while for people to find a way to jailbrake the new 2g of ipod touches because the 2g has a new harddrive and everything and apple out in some new precautions on jailbraking.

ipod touch doesn't have a hard drive, it's flash memory.

The appstore only appears on firmwares 2.0 or greater.

There is a QuickPWN for 2.1 http://www.quickpwn.com/2008/09/jailbreak-...ui-version.html I have tried it, it seems okay but its one of those things where I wonder if its better to wait for the official release. I currently have problems making a backup of my ipod but at least it works

^ Are current Itouch Jailbreak programs nowadays one program and one click? Because if it is, then I will definitely jailbreak a new Itouch.

Because back in the day I remember researching about Jailbreaking, and I do remember that it required several programs to Jailbreak, etc.

yeah you're right--source. they changed stuff making it unjailbreakable for now.

I tried it... and it was just a few clicks, follow directions on the screen like hold home+power.. then hold home.. etc
But it was buggy and refused to let me backup so I had to go and manually make some folders and update a file to make it so it would backup properly in itunes. Might be worthwhile to wait for an official ipod dev release

So anyone who wants to Jailbreak (non buggy) has to do it the old fashioned way?

I thought from what I saw ex. PwnagePro 2.0, it looked like it was a few click program.

Yeah... should be soon but so far theres only that one I linked to which was simple but had its own share of bugs. The official winpwn/quickpwn should do it with a few clicks and button presses on the ipod. (button presses on ipod puts it into DFU mode they can send modified code into)

aw, that sucks that you have to have 2.0+ in order to get the free apps. is it possible to get the upgrade from someone else if they've already bought it?

finally figured out how to customize, after watching a ton of youtube videos. i like it =]
