i know it's a blunt question, but i wanted your opinions.

samsung:

price on amazon.com: 8gb (249.00) 4gb (199.99)

archos 605 (wifi portable media player):

price on amazon.com: 30gb (274.99) 80gb (319.99) 160gb (375.85)

zune:

price on amazon.com: 30gb (229.00)

what i'm looking for in the MP3 player i want to get:
lots of memory
great video playback
good features
wide screen
convient to use/add media into
a "good" price
good battery life
customizable (menus, backgrounds, pictures, etc.)
weight

main pros on samsung (for me and from what i know):
-touch screen
-sleek and easy to use and prettyyy
-bluetooth
-different menus
-good brand
-videos look good
-music and audio has good quality
-customizable
-this MP3 is the one i have been leaning mostly towards on, despite it's lack of memory storage
main cons:
-only goes to 8gb
-white version has no 8gb [yet]
-price, just for 8gb?

main pros on archos:
-wide screen, touch screen
-price is fairly reasonable for the amount of memory they offer
-wi-fi
-music continues playing if you move to another screen
-wide variety of video formats it will play
-good battery life, not heavy
main cons:
-no playlist management
-battery is only charged through computer via USB cord (adapter costs extra and must by seperately)
(from a review i read on amazon.com:)
QUOTE
--Volume is low - With the headphone supplied the volume was very low. I replaced the headphones with a pair of in ear Sony's and now I don't have an issue. I thought the supplied headphones were uncomfortable anyways.

--Extra $$$ for Plug In's - Some of the features that are loaded on the 605 are not available unless you pay an additional fee, like the web browser. The web browser costs $30. Kind of annoying if you did not know that going in. Once you buy the plug-in, you get a code that you type in to the 605 to unlock it.

QUOTE
Some codecs (video formats like AVI) are not support ... BUT you can add some codes, of course this costs EXTRA of at least $20

main pros on zune:
-30gb
-able to share playlists
-easy organization
-price
main cons:
-playlists recieved/given only last about 3 days
-NOT that sleek and prettyyy..

ah i give bad information.
i just wanted to know which one you would prefer.
please give more information you think i should know
thanks in advance guys :]

(well i've been leaning on samsung just because thats the one i've been wanting for a while now, but i am really also leaning towards the archos now too...)

isnt the samsung one a flash based player??

if you dont need a flash player, i suggest you get one of the other two cuz they provide more punch for you money.
i didnt know sharing music only lasted 3 days on zune. that's a big turn off for me. but if you dont care about that i would say get the zune otherwise get the archos. but it's the most expensive one on your list.

To be honest, I don't like the:
Samsung: because of the very low memory space. Although it looks slim and cool.
Archos: It looks like a camera = turn-off for me.
Zune: Not too entirely bad. But I am toooooo used to the iPod format T.T

I don't really like any of them, sorryI couldn't help much. I don't really like the iPod either.
If I HAD to pick one, I'd probably do the Zune mostly because I don't know what sharing playlists means.

Do you need a player that will display music correctly in languages other than those with a Latin alphabet? If so, don't get a Zune. Also don't get a Zune if you dislike using programs to sync media instead of drag-and-drop style. Those are two reasons I'd pick the Samsung over the Zune despite the higher price and smaller storage for the Samsung flash player. If those aren't important to you and you just want more space for the money then I wouldn't get the Samsung even though it's a really good player.

I don't know much about the Archos, though.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

i just had a iriver 20gig for about 2 years and just replaced it with a ipod 6g 80gig (had a 2 yr replacement plan at best buy)

was looking at the at the archos looked too big for me to carry around (i always have the mp3 with me wherever i go)

man korea has a lot more PMPs there

o yea look into Creative Zen players they are good too

if u want to black out the spoilers you have to set the font to the color "white" then you can use the black spoiler hi light

All 3 of those players are completely different.

Samsung: Flash based player, lower memory, sleek and elegant design, and bluetooth.
Archos: Wifi, high memory capacity, hard drive, built to be PMP, not a sleek design. The bad thing about these archos is you have to buy some stuff in order to use it and they are way overpriced.
Zune: High capacity, hard drive, crappy wifi implementation(could have done more with it), fat and bulky, no unicode support, and basically an mp3 player first before anything else.

The Archos 605 is much better than any iPod in terms of being a PMP. As music, it's probably not. They do have a 160GB and, yes, it does cost more, but you get what you pay for and that is features. More than the iPod offers. I'm only comparing the hard drive players, so don't throw iPod Touch hack crap if you want to debate, but lets not do that since this is not an iPod vs Others thread.

Well partly what you said; features. I really want a player that has really good features (that work and can be worked WITH (well i've been reading reviews on the archos and I heard the features are a little lacking in performance.. worries me)) but can also play music at least pretty decently; it's not like I want to show off my music or mp3 player because I just want it for my own personal reasons. I'm looking for something that can be personalized and customized, and of course has more memory, that's one of the main reasons I want the archos. But mostly in what I am looking for is probably video quality/playback/smoothness, because I have a lot of movies I want to add onto it and I want to be able to have a lot of space for the movies.

That's what i'm really looking for.

the older 30 gig and 60 gig ipods may be good--i haven't actually heard people call them trash that will break within months--but the newest 80 & 160 gig ipod classics have been getting slammed even by ipod lovers as bad products. and all three of the players listed here have bigger, better screens for video playback than an ipod. not that ipods aren't good, but they have their own limitations and they're not perfect for everyone. for example, some people want to play more than one format for audio and video without converting, have fm radio tuners already built in without paying extra, or use voice recording. also, over a year isn't that long. my old sandisk sansa (not known for longetivity or sturdy design at all) lasted two years with no problems whatsoever, too. aren't mp3 players supposed to last a couple of years?

@ayadaokin: then you probably don't want the samsung after all since you won't be able to store a ton of movies at the same time and still have room for songs. if you're looking more for a video storage and playing machine then you might want to get the archos even though it's bulky, or the zune would better suit your needs spacewise if you don't need unicode support.

Zune has a new generation which is the 80 gb for only $250. Check your local Circuit City because my boyfriend bought one and they even gave him $25 gift card with it. So far zune is awsome because it's easier to use than Ipod and the screen is bigger too. and the design is much better than the first generation.

You should take a look at the second generation Zune with 80GB. It's slimmer and looks better.

I'm (kind of) in the same situation as you are: Zune 80GB vs Samsung P2

Been thinking about it for quite some time now. Too bad the Zune 2nd gen. only comes in black.. so now I'm thinking about waiting a bit longer to see if there will be more colors.
I'm leaning towards the Zune because I feel like the full touch screen of the Samsung will someday fail on me... I still love it though!
Both Zune and Samsung are quite different so it's really hard to decide, and I can't decide what I need more out of an mp3 player.

Just by going with I bolded, any Archos PMP seem to be right for you, since you want to store a lot of videos and have good playback. The P2 is out of the question unless you don't mind changing videos a lot. You could also look in the Zune 80GB although it doesn't have unicode if you need it. As far as customization on these players. I don't know if you can customize it. I know you can with the P2, Creative players, and iRiver players.

There is no second generation Zune with 30GB, it's only 80GB.

There are 80GB Zunes now, the latest Zunes. They're kind of hard to find, though, I think. There was more demand than expected.

If you want a Zune I suggest you go check out the official microsoft zune forums and read the nightmares about the crappy software paired with it. Seriously, I almost bought one until I read how bad the software cripples it.

I never really actually considered buying zune. I only thought about it once and a few times because of the space. Then i found more choices like the p2 and the 605.

i think I am gonna get the 605, just because of the features paired with the pmp. I do really love the look of the p2 and i love samsung, but 8gbs isn't gonna cut it for all this stuff i have haha.

It should. I've seen lots of demos and pictures of the 605 on wi-fi. it shows full HTML plus its flash based already. You can watch youtube videos even
