Did anyone receive their PSAT score back? I got mine back yesterday (a day later than most of my friends =_=). Everyone around me is complaining that they're stupid and there's no way they're going to college if they performed like that on the SATs.

So, I've been going around trying to tell people that they still have a year to improve since we're all sophomores so PSAT doesn't count for us anyway, and it's in junior year that it counts.

Anyway, I have NO idea what's supposed to be a "good" score...is there a certain number that's the average or anything above that number is seen as a "good" score?

Well, mellow.gif I got a ...204...? It says I'm in the 97% percentile for college-*insertwordherethatiforgot* juniors...except I'm not a junior so >>;;???? I need to improve on math (as always). For the individual sections, I don't remember what I got exactly since I had to show my score sheet to this person who is the head of this place I go to. And I forgot to ask for it after he looked at it =_=. Anyway, I know that for the individual sections, if you're a sophomore or younger, they compare your score for the individual sections with other sophomores (or younger). So, for the first section, I was in the 99% percentile, math...was...93% (T_T!!! LKFJKWEJAK THIS IS GOING TO KILL ME NEXT YEAR ): ), and the 3rd section was 99%.

Anyway, is this a good score for a sophomore? I have no idea who qualifies for the national merit scholarship...like, what score is the minimum to qualify (when you take it as a junior)? Hopefully, I'll improve before next October and do super well.

For a sophomore, it's not bad.
I had 208 when I was in 10th grade.
If you're aiming for the scholarship I think last year the cutoff was like 217-219ish?
It's really competitive so you have to be the top of everything! haha
Good luck, don't worry too much though!
There's lots of other scholarships out there.

D: Oh noooooooo lkfejwljwaljfewaljflwjfkwafw now i'm afraid i'm not going to make the cutoff ;_;
well, i looked over my mistakes yesterday and i made a few extremely stupid mistakes in the writing section;;;;;...i know math is going to kill me and i'm working on vocabulary now (:
oh man, if i get a worse score next year than what i got this year, i'm going to be depressed haha.

204 is okay for sophomores. it depends on how competitive u want to be though.

last year i did horribly...like 195... but then again to some that's pretty good...compared some of my friends who got almost 230 ..

er... not so much.

for ur junior year, aim for over 220.

ahhh ): i'm so nervous now. does anyone know how to improve for math? i mean, for english you have to increase your vocabulary, know the rules for grammar, and just read (and know what you're reading) more. are there any books that are good or anything?
must study harder!!! : D and thanks for the replies everyone (:

Wow you got yours already?
I wonder if I'm gonna get mines this week.. gotta pay attention to those announcements.
Anyways, I know I did bad.. definitely in the 100's range. But I believe I did a lot better than freshmen year.

Did they actually give the PSAT scores to you in person?
ohmy.gif or did they mail it to you, or what?

ha ha, I fell asleep during the psat. biggest mistake ever. xD I'm a sophmore though, so its all good.
sad.gif Never stay up late on the day before the test. blah, studied for psat, but fell asleep during the test.
oh, the irony.

yeah, well they probably mailed it to the school...because i received mine in the mail but it was in an envelope from the school (that was the return address).
so i'm guessing your school sends it out? not sure.
oh, lol. i didn't bother studying for this test at all since it doesn't even count for anything anyway. i wanted to see how well/poorly i would do if i just went in and took it without any prior studying....just...me by myself haha. i know that a lot of my friends went super crazy the week of the test and bought books and were studying from them during art and at home and the night before the test, 5 minutes before the test etc. i don't really get why they're worrying so much ): it's just to see how well you do and basically what you need to improve on before taking it for real in junior year. seriously, cramming everything in on the night before the test for only ONE DAY or possibly ONE WEEK of studying will NOT make you score a few hundred points more on the real thing a YEAR later.
haha. so yeah. i'm going to study from now on though (hopefully these isn't an empty promise). i really need to work on math =______=

^ It's okay...I did really bad too. It was my first time taking it...and I'm a junior.
At least you'll be a tad bit more prepared for the SAT's. and plus, it doesnt really count against you.
Cheer up. <3

whoa, you smart person ;D haha. congratulations! oh man, i feel bad for my friend..apparently she did really bad and usually, when she says she did "really bad", it's just an okay grade and she shows it to me...but this time, she doesn't offer to tell her grade because it's so horrible. i'm pretty sure she did decent on the test =_=, but i guess it's because she has a lot of pressure since her brother got a perfect score and was a semi-finalist and all that jazz :x.

):! well, i can't really say anything because i can tell you're really upset about this. however, keep in mind that the scholarship's only $2,000 or something...and there are other scholarships out there (: i know that being a semi-finalist or even a finalist is AMAZING and you get a scholarship and it looks really good, but really, i don't think this will count too much against you. just make sure you perform well on the SAT! i hope you get a crazy good grade on the SATs haha.
and, hope you feel better about your score and yourself soon (:

Aww, all of you got them already? Our school hasn't given them back yet.. Any day now...

I'm dying to find out what I got, because I came out of the test thinking "THAT WAS SO EASY" followed immediately with ".... I better not have declined in score from last year sleep.gif" So the next week or so will be either a confidence booster or deflater. xD
