Sad though...I stopped listening (or even "hearing") any english music 3 years ago...I cant relate to english music anymore no matter how hard I try to "listen" to it.

i reckon people trained in music like i was (as in played an instrument for years) learn to appreciate on a higher level the melody, the role of the instruments and vocals, and how everything fits together. you learn how to appreciate a wider range of genres. even though i don't agree with most of the misogynist lyrics in Western hip/hop, i can still appreciate the beat and rhythm of the vocals.
i've also been listening to korean (kpop)and japanese (jpop and jrock) music for years, although i don't really understand either language. not focusing on the lyrics has taught me to pay greater attention to all the other nuances you'd normally just "hear". e.g. toshiya of dir en grey's excellent bass in their earlier days got me looking out for good bass in most songs now.

I find that it's usually the ballads that i don't pay much attention to, that ends up being my favorites due to the lyrics.
No matter what else has changed in you or the world, that one song stays the same, just like that moment.
