So, turnitin.com is basically a site where your teachers have you turn in your essay to the site, and it checks your essay for plagerism.
The website checks the entire web crazy.gif
have you guys ever done it before? how was it? vicx.gif did you get it trouble for plagerizing before?

my english teacher requires that we turn certain assignments to turnitin.com
i actually like how my teacher uses the site, because we get 5points just for turning our stuff into the site, so its like 5 free points right there for each assignment we turn in LOL

i have never plagiarized before so idk if it actually works or not haha

dude wtheck. i want free points dry.gif for me , turning it in is part of the assignment. if i don't turn it in, i get docked points. for some classes, if i don't turn it in to turnitin.com, then i get a zero on the assignment.

i really hate turnitin.com
it's not that i have a problem with plagiarism-checks, actually i really appreciate that
but the site itself really annoys me dry.gif

Turnitin.com was usually a requirement during high school. I'd get 10%-30%, but that's a given with quotes (cited). I'm a little surprised my professors don't use it..

same here.

I've never gotten in trouble for plagiarizing. You get a cheating contract and it goes on your permanent records. :x

All my English teachers have required us to use it.

I don't believe it works and I hate it. My 4AP teacher makes us turn it in by 7:20 on the day it's due and it really, really sucks when you forget because he marks you down.

But yea, last year, my friends got in trouble because their papers were really similar and the percentage was too high. But the thing is, they didn't plagiarize and the teacher didn't believe them and they all got in trouble and my friend was really sad.

Mostly high schools use it. Basically it highlights your prose for your instructor with certain colors corresponding to how plagiarized it is. I've had friends who were caught cheating even though they changed sentence structure. Teachers are understanding when you're writing an essay that requires textual support, so it's not a big deal if you have some plagiarism. Similarly, they understand when you're writing about a common topic -- thousands if not millions of people could have used similar phrases as you.

I've been using turnitin since 8th grade, and it's not really a problem. It's all a simple process, and I've never been noted for plagiarism. You just need to make sure you have accurate citations.

our school uses it a lot.
um i don't erally trust it -0-;
i questioned my teacher like how you can prove peopel plagiarized when it's possible for a website author person to have a similar style to yours. haha
and he was explaining to me how certain sentences might stick out and blablahblabalha.

i heard that some people i know were caught when they didn't plagiarize...?
-__-; eh.

i still don't get how people can find out their percentage? i have no idea how to view it or whatever. some of my friends say they see it after they turn it in, but i don't see anything? and i thought only teachers could view it...?

we use it for major writings in ap english
it sucks becasue you can foret it to use turnitin when you finish your essay at 4 am but you have a copy printed out to give to teacher btu thwy won't accept it unless you've put a copy of your work on turnitin.com

i've always wondered hwot hat thing work
i thought they had a database of essay and aritlces, etc that they scan it over with
but then check the WHOLE web?
even those password protected sites?

I once got a 30% (it was a big research project) and my gov't teacher reduced it to one letter grade.

i was required to use turnitin.com ever since my freshman year of highschool. it's really not that bad. as long as you write your own essay and you don't incorporate so many quotes that they completely dominate your whole work, i think you'll be fine smile.gif

omg, when i first heard about it, i was scared to death about it.
but its kinda messed up because if you list a sequence in the same order as a website it marks you down for "plagerizing".
but i think if you get 20% and under it was okay. or so it was at my school. =x

i've only used it once and i didnt really like it...
after that once, my teacher told us to just turn it in by hand
i hate when there's a seemingly interesting story but i can't read through it because the writing is SO. BAD.
