i was wondering if there was a program that makes GIFs. it's such a hassle to make GIFs out of like a zillion screencaps, or opening a really huge file on imageready to make them.

so are there any programs that automatically make GIFs for you?

please & thanks smile.gif

VirtualDub allows you to set how often to output a frame and you should be able to use ImageReady (part of Photoshop) to open the outputted files and create a movie (animated GIF) from that. At least that's the only way I've done it. Most likely quite a bit of programs out there that does this but I can't say I have experience with any of them.

i use imageready.
but i agree virtual dub takes too much time.
i used gom for screen capture.
all you have to do is control panel > screen cap > take pics.
then open imageready.
and you can create something like this :

Can't you just change the frame rate at which it plays so that it creates less frames for you to work with?

i do gifs all the time.
so here's my take...

i do mine 2 ways.
1. i import them into a vid editin software and cut them. but this require some knowledge bout vid editin. if u arent familiar with it, this isnt the best option.
also, not all vids can be imported, format wise.
2. i use gom player. u can preset where u want to save ur screencaps. so once u save them all into a file, all u nd 2 do is to import e whole file, and ir will line them up for u. no nd 2 import individually.
also, gom player has shortcuts to do screencaps. alt+e. but u can change ur own shortcut keys.
i use e enter key to do screencaps. that way, u'll be faster...

hope it helps.
anyways, u can always pm me.

cheers ((:

^^-how do you change the frame rate?

^-what kind of video editing software do you have? i don't have gom player, but if you use the e key to take screencaps, doesn't it only take individual caps? so you would have to click like mad for the time you want the gif to be? lol

I think I have an old version of VirtualDub (1.6.9) since I rarely do stuff with it so this is entirely based on that particular version (maybe it applies still but I can't say for sure). Also there's really no reason to use a video editing software when you have VirtualDub, you can cut the video with it and you can work with only a segment of the video.

Open your video file.
Video > Frame Rate (CTRL+R)
...Adjust the values there...

You can set the START and END and save as segmented AVI or you can cut out parts you don't need.

I'm not really sure if it did affect the "Save Image Sequence" feature. But if it didn't, you should just save the video file into another file with the different frame rate and try working with that new video file. I do wish I could be more helpful.

I searched on http://www.afterdawn.com/ for animated GIFs and the results there look promising so I would start there (some good programs and some bad).

u can use windows movie maker. e simplest software available. or anything dats available out there. seriously, there's tons...

well, u just continue pressing e one key for as long as u want ur gif 2 be... its really much simpler.
