Windows Movie Maker is a very easy to use program in my opinion, and it is very good for its cost (free!) But if you are looking for a program that you pay for, the best you can get is Adobe Premiere Pro (costs hundreds of dollars). A step down from that woulud be Pinnacle Studio - fairly easy to use and not too expensive

sony vegas, adobe premiere, final cut pro (MAC) come to mind

if you do a search for open-source free editors, vivia comes up. give that a go. all you gotta do is google around.. dry.gif

OMG I love Windows Movie Maker. It's fun and easy to use!!
I never heard of Adobe Premiere? Sounds interesting though.

I like Windows Movie Maker because you can do credits in the end.
And it's easier so yeah biggrin.gif

Pinnacle Studio is great for amateurs and Adobe Premiere is for advanced users.

I think all free editors suck (including WMM). On the affordable/practical range... Pinnacle Studio, Ulead Visual Studio, and Cyberlink Director.

"sony vegas, adobe premiere, final cut pro (MAC) come to mind" <~~ These are way out of league for amateur editing and not to mention the price (if anyone says to go download the "free" version, I will put an admin hurting on you.. laugh.gif... It is actually against the rules too...)

^ I guess you have to put "admin hurting" on most soompi users then rolleyes.gif

But anyway back to the subject, the softwares(Pinnacle studio, Ulead etc...) are decent video production softwares that can help you accomplish your work.

Realistically, video editing doesn't come cheap smile.gif So I guess you can play with the consumer level pinnacle studio, ulead softwares. Once you're familiar with the encoding, transcoding, file formats, etc.. then possibly you could save up some money for Sony vegas, Adobe premiere pro etc.... I guarantee spending that money on the more prosumer software would be well worth it. smile.gif Plus most video editing softwares come with a book of Tips and tutorials.

I personally use Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. I have in the past used Pinnacle studio, Ulead and many other softwares, but they just don't provide me with the flexibility and features that help speed up my video editing process.

Considering that this is only for a project, I think you'll be fine with Windows Movie Maker. If you think you'll be having a whole lot more projects that you'll need video editing for, I still think you should just use Windows Movie Maker.

But I understand how you might not like it and stuff. I guess you can use Pinnacle like everyone else was saying smile.gif

I recommend Ulead Video Studio. It's awesome!
Pretty easy but you can still do some advanced stuff with it! biggrin.gif

blink.gif how odd just google it... I think this is it though http://www.download.com/Windows-Movie-Make...4-10187903.html

Actually for just a project you can just get the 30 day trials of the Adobe programs and just use it until its over... Adobe Premiere Elements actually isn't all that bad and its reasonably affordable if you actually want to buy it.
I used to enjoy pinnacle studio but now im all amused by premiere with the simple effects and the versatility of modifying the video and all that... it does have quite a bit of a learning curve though. Google and youtube does have some really nice guides though.

Adobe Premier, Windows MM is easier to follow through, but less effects.

Surprised no one mentioned Virtualdub/Virtualdubmod yet

Just for simple trimming, Solveig Multimedia Splitter

Guides and stuff for these programs either at doom9.org or videohelp.com

Good luck.
