If low light is what you want, Fujifilm F50fd is the thing to get but it doesn't have as good an optical zoom as these cameras I think. They're all good choices but I like the Canon.

Whatever you get, get something with a lot of optical zoom (not digital, optical) and image stabilization.

I think having AA batteries can be convenient. If they run out, you just put the spare AA batteries you have and continue snapping pictures. No waiting on the charging, but you can purchase rechargeable batteries as well.

image stabilization isnt as effective as it should be (digital as well as optical)
thus its more important to chose a camera which produces decent results even in the uper iso range (>800)
among non-dslrs u while have quite a hard time to find such a camera.
the only one which was kinda good was the f31fd
but a) its not sold anymore and cool.gif it was just a 3x optical zoom
i bought the s6500fd with 10 optical zoom (manual).
since it was a comparably large image sensor (1/1.7" compared to 1/2.5" what most cameras these days have)
plus its a super-ccd
but then again its pretty big.
...
IPB Image ... yeah ^^

i have the panasonic tz3.
its a overall good camera, one thing that it's strong in is pictures taken outdoors and the telemacro zoom. oh and the 10x zoom is great.

the only downside is the indoor quality pictures taken with a tz3 is quite poor; the picture becomes very noisy and such.
oh and as you said, you cant zoom in while recording.

overall it's a great camera; you have to face it, every camera has its flaws..

u don't need a specific camera to take pics at a concert.
if ur gonna be using a point and shoot digital camera, just take whatever you have
and set ur iso to about 600 [it'll ruin the quality] but u'll get bright pics.
and.... if u use the internal flash with your point and shoot, pics will not be flattering.
