ok, so im in real need of a new phone soon [as my LG chocolate is a piece of crap and keeps turning off on me]...and so iv been basically tossing up between these 2 phones....my basic requirements are:

good mp3 function [i want to use mp3s as ringtones, etc]
good battery life [i cant do anything on the KG800 for fear of my battery dying]
good texting function/dictionary function [the LG dictionary is crap compared to a nokia one]

yup, so i kno im paying out the LG but...its crap. hahaha=]

Im not too sure about the 580, but isnt the N95 like a monster feature packed phone? Like i know it has 5MP camera and stuff, so can it really be compared?
Im assuming that theN95 battery is kind of short compared to the 580. But then the camera is frickin nice, the 580 doesnt even have flash i believe.

the w580 has 9 h and the n95 has 6.5 h of battery life =P
although, i would say go for the n95 it literally has EVERYTHING
i think o.O...
the w580 is pretty good for music though since it is a Sony
Ericsson Walkman phone...

You are really comparing 2 different category phones. I mean , N95 is a smartphone/multimedia phone and w580 is a music phone. If you have the money I'd definately recommend the N95 since it has everything lol, if you dont , then W580 is a good choice too.

get the w580i since youre only going to use it to call, text etc..

i used to have an n95 and sold it, its not that i didnt like it but it was too much for me
now i have the n81 8gb ;D

how about the k850i ? its has better specs than the w580 and the battery lasts a lot longer than the n95. there are 3 n95 versions though: original, 8gb, and USA 3G. the 3G one is still in the $500-$600 range while the k850i is going down in price. The k850i is also supposed to released with AT&T during march with contract. However, you can buy it unlocked now for a pretty decent price. There's also n82, which came out just recently. I just got my k850i and it has met all my expectations. I'll post up a review when i get the time (:

Well I have the w580i.
If you unlock it, you could use your MP3's as ringtones..
It has a pretty good music function - for some odd reason there's like 2 music players..
It has a pretty good battery life... And the keys are pretty nice to use.
It has some pretty awesome lights and the shake feature is a lot of fun

w580 is awesome! i got one... and love it!!
and from the thingz you're looking for.. i would say go for this one
but. i saw the n95 today from this random guy.. and he let me play with it.. and.. WOW.. just WOW~!
but.. apparently it suckz up alot of battery life... so u gotta recharge it alot!

hmm someone told me that the k850i wast that good? or mebbe im confusing the models....i prefer slide phones over candybar ones, nd the k850i isnt a slide is it?

Those are two completely different phones. The W580 is a multimedia device while the N95 is a "smart phone" and a multimedia device. The N95 can do more than the W580. The N95, as of now, is the ultimate multimedia cell phone device on the market.
