are you sure about that?
i've heard you can jailbreak it to 1.1.1, and then back to 1.1.2
isn't it the same procedure as the ipod touch?
so if the sim is locked, you still can't use the phone function?
Sure you can jailbreak back to 1.1.1 then upgrade to 1.1.2 but the Baseband FW reamins the same (The Baseband FW are different in 1.1.1 and 1.1.2). Basically you'll have an iPod Touch.
i heard its risky, if you mess up a bit it'll screw up the whole phone
not 100% true, there is a tool out there that "ReVirginize" the phone back to its original state. So you can't really mess it up unless you screw up the
Baseband FW then you basically screwed up the whole phone.
The iPhone has basically 2 levels of security. Software and Baseband, to dumb it down. You got the iPhone "Computer" part to use and mess with and then you got the phone part of the phone.
Both parts need to be unlocked before you can 100% use the phone. You can unlock the Software part (This is called Activating the iPhone), but you'll basically have an ipod touch. And you can't unlock the phone part byitself as it needs the software to know what #s to call and how to answer incoming calls.
So yeah, back to basics. You need a 1.1.1 or 1.0.2 or 1.0.1 FW iPhone if you want to use it 100% unlocked when you buy it Out of the Box (OTB)
