How Important Are Senior Grades? a little anxious = (

Guidance counselors told us stories about how on the acceptance letters, they always add something about "maintaining academic success" and that there were many kids who got calls from colleges in May telling them they got kicked out after they got accepted.
I'm scared b/c senioritis hit me...BAD. Do most colleges only look at first semester or the whole 12th grade year? If they look at the whole year, then I can just work harder and get them back up but on my first and second quarter grades, I have one E and a couple Ds. Is that enough to be kicked out, or am I just over reacting?

Well...I think if it's a really good school and a lot of people really want to get in (such as Harvard), you'll probably have to work really hard throughout the whole year because they'll probably look at your grade throughout the year. Because if you just slack off, they can just be like, oh this person doesn't really really want to go here, or something like that, and they'll pick another person who's done well throughout the whole year.
But nevertheless, you should try to maintain good grades. It's probably okay if your grades drop a little but if they drop a lot, =/.

Senior grades are a VERY important factor in regards to admission. Believe me I know from personal experience... I was initially accepted by UCLA but was rejected after they found about about my senior grades. I was also in danger of losing admissions to other schools as well but I worked extremely hard towards the end of my senior year in order to get in and stay at UCSD.
I hate to break it down to you, but you're gonna have to start working your ass off right now if you want to go to a decent school. I cannot stress enough how important it is to keep your grades up. I don't know what an E is on a grade-point scale but a couple of D's is not life insurance.

i kinda disagree with that statement.
they're important in that if you have been performing at a high level previous to senior year, you're expected, more or less, to maintain that level of performance throughout sr year.
if you have been getting A's and B's throughout your hs career, you should still get at least all B's senior year...a couple C's won't kill you...
but D's and E's...ouch.
colleges look at first semester because they already have decisions in the middle of second semester...

but one of my friends, he got into carnegie mellon
he failed 2nd semes BC calculus..and they said he could still come..he's there now..
he just has to take the sped calculus..
i think it just depends on the school..

If they do consider senior GPA heavily, let them know that you're going to work very hard to improve your grade. And keep your word on that.

But if you did enough extracurriculars I'm sure you can probably get in, along with two smoking hot essays.

even if you are accepted and enroll into a college, they expect you to
maintain your grade average...

Will good senior grades HELP admissions at all? As in, they've improved a lot... I have about half A's half B's, 3.7ish grade point average at the moment, but this past semester I'm pretty sure I'll be getting straight A's, and maybe next semester too =] Will that help at all, or not really?

I don't think they would, because by the time you send in your senior transcripts colleges probably already decided to accept/reject you right? It's just to make sure you don't slack off.

also, in response to pekkles question, your 1st semester senior grades will count. colleges want to make sure youre not slacking off and really like it when kids get high/higher gpas. id say that at this point, you want to take advantage of every opportunity you can to impress the admissions officers.

however, 2nd semester, not really. plenty people, including me, slacked off 2nd semester and still go to their colleges. but you want to be careful. you can't be this one student that they saw on your applications, then completely let everything go. colleges like to see consistency but i'm sure they know about senioritis. your second semester grades have to be pretty bad for them to take your admissions away from you. also, if its a hard ap class like calculus or something that you do bad in and the past years you've been doing good in school, i don't even think a D will be a problem. i think i got away with a C or D in AP Calc, can't really remember.
if you mess up 1st semester to the point of questioning, i think they send you a letter warning you that after reviewing your grades, you're at risk of losing your admissions. at that point, if they don't see improvement in your 2nd semester, then they will take it away.
at least, thats how i remember it.
some advice, if you realize that your grades aren't doing good, you really want to take the initiative to go talk to you teacher and get extra help AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. not only to get the grades, but if you show that you're putting in effort to fix your grades, later if it comes to the point where the college is rethinking your acceptance, your teacher/g.counselor can write to them for you to help you out.

bad grade consistency = community college THEN university
