Hey all
I was thinking and i realized something....when a modded car goes on the market for sale, how you noticed the re-sale value is real low? Like i mean, ive seen pplz selling their modded cars in online ads like craiglist and other sites and they sell it for a low price.
Ive seen this one seller selling an ek and that dude said he spent over 10k modding it but he's selling it for bout 8k, but since no one was willing to buy it, dude sold parts from the car. Ive also seen this one person that said he spent over 50k on mods and has all the receipts but he was only trying to get 25k for it.
I guess what i am saying is, is it really worth it tryin to sell your modded car if you know you wont get a lot for it? Thats what i am afraid of

Parts are like cars, once they're used they cannot be sold for it's original new value. You may think your car is worth such and such, the public thinks otherwise especially the informed. Only those who are uninformed and extremely interested in the modded car will even think about the price.
Plus, most people don't like picking up other people's projects. I sure as hell don't unless the price is right and actually know the owner and problems. I've seen GSR EGs on steelies with a gutted interior, needs new paint, try to sell for 5300. Not worth the price. It's been on sale in my area for longer than half a year until it finally got sold a couple months back.

Its all about supply and demand my friend. If someone is willing to buy someone elses project, then the car gets sold. However, most of the population don't want a modded car.... probably due to warranty becoming void, people thinking it's unreliable, etc. etc.
You could always take the parts out, try to sell the used parts. Put in the stock parts, lie and say "no mods" but......... thats cheating.

modified cars are a disaster waiting to happen. as clix said, it's someone else's project that has its problems. where as a car that was once been modified reverted to stock can sell, because a potential buyer may want to modify it or just use it as a daily driver and not get beat on by the police. the best bet to sell a personal car that has been modified is to sell the car with stock oem parts and sell the modifications.

As with all products you have to find the right market to get the best price, but even then you will almost never get full value of the parts thrown into it. That is just how it is, and even more true at the dealer. You just gotta use your noggin to weigh what is best to part out, or at least the parts that is easy to remove or really valuable and use the rest as a selling point.
I sold my lightly modded Accord for 500 over blue book and I left my rims, springs, shocks on it. I was happy with it.
Basically the more you put into it, the less you will get back.

Also, dont think you'll get back the $ you put into the car, the mods have been used... expensed over time.

you never get back the money you put into the car for mods.
one of the members here(and i'm sure many other people here as well) could tell you his/her own story about how they lost a lot of money and hard work on a car when they sold it..
...wonder if that particular member is still around lurking though.
