Okay

So I have been googling the Charice girl right because she is getting major buzz over the net for her talent
so I'm watching her performances and I have come across one of the stupidest things I have ever read it urkes me

Charice Pempengco Sings Better than Dreamgirls

Posted on October 26, 2007 at 11:15 am (PST)

A 15-year-old Filipina named Charice Pempengco has proven me right once again. Filipinas sing better than black girls in my opinion. Charice performed a Dreamgirls song And I Am Telling You, which won Jennifer Hudson an Oscar, only Charice did it better. I’m certain Pedophiles who roam the Internet will agree, if not just for the fact this is a 14 year-old girl in a skirt. The most touching part is that Charice changed the words - from “You’re the
best man I’ve ever known†to “You’re the best MOM I’ve ever known.†Mom must be so proud of her little Diva.

Another example of the voice of an Angel is 100% Filipina Lea Salonga. In the video below Lea auditions for Miss Saigon. You might also remember her in Aladdin (1992) singing the voice of Princess Jasmine. It’s true blacks are good singers, but for my musically trained ear, Filipinas have one of the most beautiful voices on the planet. Blacks commenting here should listen to music from around the world before commenting. There are many great voices besides black voices. Take some time to appreciate other cultures outside of your own. I’m not trying to say blacks don’t have good voices, but I am saying Charice has a better voice than Jennifer Hudson. For me it’s the voice as well as the approach to the song. Black girls sing from their soul, but Filipinas sing from their
heart. That’s how I see it. Nothing against the talented black girls out there.

That really blew my mind
first of all, everyone is entitled to there opinion
but the generalizations are just out of this world

first of all, who is anyone to say where we sing from? whether we are black, filipina, white, puerto rican
you can't generalize a group of people like that, artists are inspired by different things which allows them to sing the way they do
and who says that black girls don't appreciate others who can sing r&B???
That is just an assumption

Second of all, judging from 2 filipinas you think one race can sing better than the other?
how can you figure, there are black girls who can sing better than some filipinas and vice versa
it's not about what race you are , it's about having the ability.
I'm sure there are some non asian people out there who sing in japanese and korean
better than some of the artists, just as there are asian artists who can sing better in english than some

Third of all
This isnt a talent competetion between races
music is for everyone, it isnt limited to any race or country

I am so sick of people always playing the stupid race card when it comes to things like this

I just thought I'd share and see what your thoughts were

Filipinas are good singers, but that article is just plain racist.

Then again I won't say that Blacks are the best singers. Remember, genius knows no country. You can possibly find talent anywhere in this world. You just have tap them well.

This'll be a bad thread with debates and stuff so I hope someone closes this ASAP

THEN JUST STICK WITH THAT STATEMENT! Don't bring in all blacks and all filipinos. wayyy too much over-generalizing

but then again, it's from hollywoodgrind.com, so you can't take it seriously

Hollywoodgrind.com is full of idiots bottom line man. Yeah I found that same article from them last night when I was looking up Charice.

Everyone (Doesn't matter race or gender) is talented in their own way.

I support Charice, but yeah....I think that article crossed the line. That was too much. I dont like it when other people are being put down in order to prove that one is better or talented.

I'm a Charice fan but that article is very stupid. Although Filipinos are underrated!
It's mainly because we are not as popular as other Asian races.

Philippines lost in Asian Idol 2007 but it was popularity based. However, when it comes to quality
Philippines won the ASEAN IKON 2007 which was based by judges of 4 Asian countries.

I wouldn't have taken this article too seriously in the first place.

1) It's a personal article, so the writer can write whatever. Yes it was rude and unnecessary for generalizations and certiain comments, but its not like it's ever going to stop. It's kind of being blown out of proportion...since...

2) Look at the source - it's not even a legit website. It's a gossip site! So who gives what the person thinks... Now if Ellen Degeneres went and said this, then we have a larger problem, but if this is from a writer who cannot even post their name up, then I don't see what the fuss is.

Just dismiss them as idiots. They are going to change the world by starting a gossip website, they're only fueling lower IQ's.

- Charice still needs to develop. As of the moment, she is endearing because of the talent she has at this age, but she lacks a certain quality/aura that artists like Alicia Keys and Rhihanna have.

This article is @#$% >_> I hate generalizations made about each race ethnicity.
And yes, it always about the ability. And the passion (:

Btw, I'm not really a fan of Charice... Won't say no more because I'll just get bashed.

The person stated his or her opinion, if you don't like it -- move on. People are always playing the defensive card -- which is a possibility as to why there's so much quarrels in the world. Yes, you have your own opinion too -- but why waste your time and energy on something not even worth it? It's clear that the writer lack intelligence and probably common sense to even group people together like that, but who cares.

^ ditto.
it's a personal article and as we have read, she's generalizing and was unmindful of what she was stating. but that's her opinion and we have ours. we shouldn't waste our time on such things because whatever we say it doesn't make a change to what she just wrote.

Seems to me like you've taken the CHarice versus Min issue way to personally.

You said it yourself that it's an opinion. You can choose to either ignore it an move on or
make a big deal about it. Yes, posting it in a forum of 100,000+ members is making-a-big-deal.

Filipinos have a lot of pride for our country even though we're
too americanized to even function as a proper developing Asian country.
And honestly, sometimes we can be too full of ourselves especially if we know that we are good at it.
Take this singing issue as an example: It is true that Filipinos are great singers.(I sincerily apologize. THis came out wrong. Not all Filipino are good singers. I meant the highly, highly respected ones and that's almost everybody in the music industry itself)
And the reason for that is because we take music seriously unlike
the east asian countries where singers who can't sing make it big.
Singers like Charice Pempengco is just one of the many singers we take pride on,
and we know that they're good that's why we love to boast about them.
Filipinos become arrogant especially when it comes to music.
It's a sad truth that we have too much pride for our singers, but it doesn't just come from
meanigless patriotism because like I said before, the music industry is a serious matter to us;
singers who deserve attention is given attention.

It's wrong to have compared a talent of one country to the other with such criticism
and negativity.
This article is most likely written by a Filipino who obviously has too much pride that.

You see the same thing happening on soompi on a daily basis: people comparing whose
better than who to the point that one artist is being dragged down just so they can praise their favorites.

Don't tell me you haven't done it yourself.
I've seen you around the forum way too many times trying to share your "opinions" about TVXQ and SUJU
and the Johnny Ent boys. phew.gif

EDIT:
Even what I wrote sounded conceited and prideful.
It's just become natural for us.

I'm sorry if I in any way offended anyone or came out immature.
I'm not looking for arguements. God knows I'll be on the loosing side.

My intention was just ot explain where this sort of pride about our singers come from.

WhaaaaAAAaat the **ck? You are a downright racist to the freakin core. dry.gif We know that Charice is a good singer and it isn't because of her race. She sings good because she sings good. I know of tons of filipinos who sing horribly. So if I were you, I wouldn't go around making up stereotypes like that.

Are you talking about me? or the article?

If it's me, singers who are popular and higly respected and most importantly is in the music industry here in the Philippines are good that's why sometimes we tend to become a tad bit(or sometimes, way more) arrogant when we praise them.
I was only explaining where this sort of pride comes from.
Like I said, the music business here isn't some laughable matter.

I was talking about popular singers, the most respected ones, so just chill.
I was in no way being racist.
I did not generalize that all Filipinos are good singers.
Who said that anyway? DEfinitely not me. definitely me.
Once again, the highly respected Filipino singers are indeed good, hence the pride and arrogance.

EDIT!
I realized I sort of generalized.
I did not mean that all Filipinos are great singers.(I didn't realize, my apologies.)
But I was only trying to explain where this excessive and unecessary pride comes from.
I'm even putting my own race down saying that we're too full of ourselves.
The people that we see on our local television are amazing singers that's why we have this much pride.

Well the article was biased but its just a opinion...it could have just been left as a opinion.

Sure, Charice has vocal powers and I was impressed on how much power she had and I wish her success.
But it doesn't make her better than any other race out there. She is a person...doesn't make her better because she's Filipino or not.

It was stupid for the writer to compare two different race in the first place but you could have
commented the person saying, you feel offended and race should be treated equally.

First of all
I was not questioning Charice's vocal ability
I have nothing whatsoever against her, in fact I'm glad someone who is actually talented is getting recognized on youtube
and not getting recognized for stupid things (ex Chris Crocker)

Yes I have had my opinions
but I don't make racist comments

there is nothing wrong with being proud of people from your country making it big in
other places because I believe the world belongs to everyone....however it becomes a huge problem when people start making unneccessary racist comments.

Like I said
everyone can have talent
your race doesnt determine anything.

I didn't say anything about you questioning her vocal ability.
I was just simply explaining where all these conceit of ours are coming from.
Our well know singers are very good indeed that's why we don't hesitate to
praise them and sometimes to even a ridiculous extent.
