J.K. Rowling has considered writing an eighth 'Harry Potter' book, but insists the boy wizard would not be the "central character".

J.K. Rowling has considered writing an eighth 'Harry Potter' book.

The writer - who released the seventh, and what was touted as the final tome, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', in the boy wizard series this year - revealed she may revive the magical world of Hogwarts and its pupils one day, but insists Harry would not be the central character.

Rowling - who is working on an adult novel and a "political fairy tale" - said: "There have been times since finishing, weak moments, when I've said, 'Yeah, all right,' to the eighth novel.

"If, and it's a big if, I ever write an eighth book about the wizarding world, I doubt that Harry would be the central character. I feel like I've already told his story. But these are big ifs. Let's give it 10 years and see how we feel then."

The millionaire novelist - who came third in Time magazine's prestigious Person of the Year list - already has her characters' destinies worked out in her mind.

She added to the magazine: "Harry and Hermione are at the Ministry of Magic, and Harry ends up leading the Auror department. Ron helps his brother George at the joke shop and does very well. Ginny becomes a professional Quidditch player and then sportswriter for the Daily Prophet."

I don't know. I'm not that surprised. I love Harry Potter and I'll be glad if it doesn't really end; just curious about who it'll focus on

I thought she said if she were to write an eighth 'book' it'd just be an encyclopedia that ties up any loose ends and stories that she thought about but never put into the actual series. I don't think it'd be overkill for her to write an eight book since she says it's strictly non-Harry. But oh well, she did say it's a big if, so nothing solid yet.

i think she just misses the magical world she created...
i hope she doesn't write an 8th book tho. those kinda books generally turns out to be exactly like the other books but with a different character. its never as good

WOW, great news of HP fans of course. but in 10 years time??????? I suppose nothing's solid yet. Of course she would miss the magical world she created, I miss it too it should be like how the Hobbit is loosely connected to LOTRs.

I wouldn't be completely opposed to the possibility of an eighth book if Harry isn't the main character. Let's see what happens. Though I wouldn't expect anything anytime soon.

I do know that she is in fact going to release the encyclopedia in a few years. As for another book, I do understand what Jo means by how she gets tempted to continue it. I mean she made up this amazing world in her head. She must be really fond of her world. It'd be interesting to see if she does in fact one day write another book based off Harry's magical world, even if Harry will not be the central character.

Have the same exact thought. I don't read Harry Potter but I read a few things about the last book and I think it's good to just end it there.

to people who love harry potter, this is actually a GREAT news.
to people who doesnt really care(or read harry potter), some will look to this news as if jo just wants more money.

and since i belong to the first category, i think this is a great news
HOWEVER, i just listened to her interview with the pottercast(you know from the leaky cauldron), and she actually said she havent decided on writing anything at the moment(except of course for the Scottish Book and different children books)
she said she doesnt want to feel as if she's forced to write something
and me being a huge harry potter fan, would rather want to see the encyclopedia published soon than an 8th book

to people who think she want more money, that means you dont know how her copyrights works..
her children(or whomeever she wants the money to go to, and in all honesty i think she'd rather want to give this money to charities) will be receiving money from the harry potter franchise 50 or 100 years even after she dies

agreed AGREED! Gah, if she writes an eighth book I am definitely not buying it! The epilogue in the seventh book killed part of my love for Harry Potter >.< The writing style was just sooo...AMATEUR! I expected more from J.K. Rowling. I'm so mean, but I REALLY loved Harry Potter before reading the seventh book.

Ditto. I really don't want an 8th book. Not that I hated the 7th book or anything (<3) and not that I don't want to know what happens to all of the characters...but I thought she said that she's ending at book 7. I haven't seen this article posted on Mugglenet so I'm skeptical.

It would be horrible.
The seventh book was actually my least favorite. I thought it could have been muchh better.
Thats besides the point, because I still adore HP - however the encyclopedia was a bad idea. This is perhaps even worse.
