My Dog passed away after 11 years together sad.gif i had him since i was 7 but i am sure he is in a better place now. i still have his bowl and some unopened dog food lying around and i miss not having a pet.

so since i am old and responsible enough, i want another dog but i dont know which breed or type will suit me, could you guys give me some suggestions?

these are the traits i'm looking for in a dog:
*a breed that doesnt likely contract to hereditary disease - Some breeds of dogs are also prone to certain genetic ailments, such as hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, cleft palate, blindness, or deafness.
* short fur - my last dog was so high maintenance he had long curly fur which was hard to brush out the knots and got dirty easily
*stays small or grows to medium size - i'm scared of Big giant dogs, incase they jump on me and knock me over.
*something that likes to be active and doesnt lounge around all day/likes affection and cuddling.

My main concern is about the dogs health, since some kinds of breeds are susceptible to certain genetic diseases, but i hear that mixed breeds and hybrids are more healthy and general dont inherit their parents diseases. well some people value the pure bred dogs, and others ignore pedigree and, instead, value a dog's personality and health, for me i dont really mind as long as the dog is healthy and happy.

chihuahuas,This breed requires expert veterinary attention in areas such as birthing and dental care. Chihuahuas are also prone to some genetic anomalies, often neurological ones, such as epilepsy and seizure disorders.

its like a toy dog, i really want a pet for companionship and physical activites.
they are really cute but to me they seem fragile.
