You know how most Harvard people or people who apply are not only smart but have that mentality to always form clubs, change the world, socializa and think of new ideas. Well i don't have that mentality...i just want to be rich...should i not apply?

I would change that "most" to "some".

And yes, you should apply.

and what makes you think that getting into harvard = success? Harvard undergrad is overrated anyway... stop putting that program on a pedestal. no disrespect to any harvard student out there... but good lord... if undergrad was the holy grail of success, most of us would be living in poverty.

true that!! shooot i wanna be rich too!! but u gotta find ur own way. << sorry if i sound all preachy.

just because u went to a certain school won't make u rich. u'll get respect sure from coming from a prestigious college; but it shows if you have learned anything at all.

and harvard is competative its a medicine and law school. so yeah some of the richest professions out there.

but do u have that kind of mentality and do u want to do it? apply anyways.

Apply anyway.
Like my counselor says...
There's no way you can get in if you don't apply!
But keep in mind there's always grad school (:
And to a person reading your resume,
Grad school > Undergrad school

Harvard is garbage. Go PRINCETON!!!

jkjk.

If you can get in, apply. If you just want the vibe of being a Harvard graduate, go ahead. There are probably hundreds of people that do the same. It's your future.

You should always take a chance (regrets are bad) =). Never hurts; especially when there's nothing on the line other than pride.

Harvard and other Ivy League schools care wayy too much for "family legacy". Aka if you grandparents or parents went to Harvard, it raises ur chance by at least 30% to get in.

My friend, whose parents both went to Harvard (therefore double legacy) told me that Harvard and other Ivy League schools look at LEGACY before everything else. its like..

LEGACY
GPA/standarize test scores (SAT/ACT)-- same level of importance
LEADERSHIP
Extracurricular- in school and out of school

Therefore, my friend has a pretty high chance of getting into harvard, like, 90%...cuz...not only he's from DOUBLE legacy, he's also got 2370 for SAT and 4.6 GPA. =x
but i dont think he has much extracurriculars, and he's def ain't leadership material LOL.

but the legacy part will make up for that.

hope that helps

^ I think your friend may be wrong. Or, at least I hope so!

GPA and standardized test scores aren't on the same wrung of the ladder anymore, especially since there is such a big deal of controversy over the validity of the SAT tests. I think Harvard looks more at GPA, teacher recommendations, personal characteristics, and extracurricular involvement above SAT scores. Legacy isn't a big deal if you don't have everything else.

Harvard, and most big name colleges, don't look for students who want big money. They want to look for students who are passionate about learning, who love to contribute in class, and who love school.

The school you go to for undergrad isn't necessarily going to define how successful you're going to be in the future. There are kids who graduate from elite colleges/universities who end up working at a Starbucks.

That being said, don't be scared to apply if it's a dream school of yours smile.gif

lots of people apply to harvard for various reasons. if you want to, go ahead! its application is not that bad anyway (upenn=bad. random questions galore!)
and ive studied at harvard. its an AHHHHMAZING place. i know people say its overrated and everything, but i totally changed my mind. i LOVE LOVE LOVE cambridge and boston and the professors there, at least the shakespeare ones, were really REALLY smart (yea, no duh) and friendly and the people are amazing. freshmen dining area is BEAUTIFUL and food isnt that bad wink.gif
good luck!

no way that GPA and teacher recs holds more importance than SAT. Inflated GPAs are a fact of all high schools. The only differentiator is the SAT. There isn't anyone on the planet who is truly intelligent that cannot do well on standardized testing so that excuse doesn't work.

i heard it was like last year, harvard rejected 10 people or so with perfect SATs. that's pretty scary :|

My question to you is, "Do you have leadership? Are you different from the rest? Are you going to try hard even in college?"

you dont have to go to harvard to be rich...
for example, i know someone who graduated from babson, is now 23, and makes an excess of $750k a year. (maybe that's not a lot to you, but to me that is really really good for a 23 yr old)
besides, i think harvard is way overrated.

I heard that more and more colleges are looking at SAT's as less important now, because there have been lots of debates about whether SAT is really an indicator of how well you'll do in college or not. GPA usually seems to be the highest factor. o.x;

as long as you're RICH and at least one of your parents are Harvard Alumni's
then you'll most likely get in.. A lot of rich (some smart, some average) attend Harvard
because of their parents.

But you should apply.. you never know.. Harvard is just a stepping stone in achieving 'general' success

that's true. lol
honestly..
like honestly
i don't hear much from students who garduated from harvard
lol
people who graduate from lke cal state schools or some uc schools seem to have a better future (a loot of $$$$) than people who graduate from famous schools.
