I know this topic isn't really for the college section since it is going against the whole going to college thing but i couldn't find any other place to put this.
I've been a college student for three semesters now and it's not that I'm going to quit school forever, I do plan on finishing my education, I'm sure of it. However, I'm planning not to go this semester and I don't really know what to tell my parents. They're the kind of parents that came here to America in search for a better life/education/future...etc. etc. & I LOVE my parents & I hate dissapointing them and everything, but I WANT a break from school right now. Just one semester. Just wondering for those of you who've been in my situation or know someone who is/was, how would you go upon this dilemna, cause I don't know how to handle it. PLEASE any advice/comments is much appreciated!

How To Telll Your Parents... you're not going to school this semester

I think you need to sit down with your parents and talk to them. Most obvious thing to do. Your grown up now, and taking a semester off won't hurt your education at all. You need to make that clear to them. Also, you need to tell them what are your plans if your going to take a semester off. Work? Rest? I"m sure they'll be considerate of your decision. You just need to be decisive on your actions. If you can present your case to them, i'm sure they won't mind you taking just the semester off.

if they are absolutely adamant about you staying in school, you can always take a lighter workload of easy A classes and fun classes. it's too bad you didnt plan ahead... you could be studyng abroad. oh well...

if you are still in school, try talking to your academic advisor as well as the school counselors, they will be your best sources on your situation.

Yeah just sit down and talk to them about it. It would be nice to have a plan of what you want to do so it will seem like part of your plan. But as other said, if not take a really light load... you're still going but just a lot less, but that can be a waste of money esp when you pay for parking, gas, and hopefully not cost of living there fees.
My parents took my change from engineering major to computer better than I imagined. Although if they objected perhaps I would be on the path for a possible carrier with employment hahahaha

ER but wait 3 quarters and you want a break? I think thats reasonable enough, just say you need a break like the summer break to unwind a bit I think they would understand unless they're like the ones who are like summer BREAK?! So thats time we can make you take some classes for extra credits and stuff back when you were in highschool haha

just tell them. you're in college--you're old enough to make your own decisions. i've been in the same situation many times (telling my parents i'm not going to school, telling them i'm not going home, telling them i'm not going to get a job, etc.) a break after three semesters is not unreasonable. and if they're not happy with it, take your break just the same, what can they do really?

My mom would whoop my ass.
Anyways, just get her in her best mood possible. Wait for the perfect moment, sit her down, and just straight out say "I'm not going to school this semester, mom."

I go for mine, I got to shine.

It's my freshmen year, and I was ready to drop out the day my family dropped me off at my dorm. I was in the situtation where my parents made enough for my education and I was the only one going to school.
I want to take the spring semester off too, but I guess I'm being forced to go.
But the best thing to do is tell them the reason why you want to take a break from school. Tell them all your experience, and if they tell you, 'that's what college is all about. This isn't high school anymore.' Just try to get them to understand you!
