My camera won't take pictures. The LCD works perfectly fine to view past pictures, the lens retract and everything... but when i try to take a picture, the screen is black.

I don't know what to do.

what brand and what model do you have?

Have you tried some new batteries? Like some alkaline batteries (if compatible) or with the charger?

Last resort is to thump the camera a bit to see if it bounces things into place to get it working haha

i see it's an older model...
a lot of times, when a camera shows a black screen, it's a recall on the unit.
so you can send it to canon and they will fix it for free or if they don't have the parts available, they'd just
ship you a refurbished upgraded model.

i don't think urs is a recall unit, but.. if ur able to view menus and etc on ur lcd and just can't see the pics ur taking,
it's probably the power/main circuit problem.

try taking pictures anyway and look through the viewfinder.
now, if you don't hear that click sound when u press the shutter, it means that camera is definitely broken.

if ur camera continues to show black screen, i suggest that u just use it as is.

but if it doesn't take pictures at all, don't bother fixing it because repairing the camera will cost more than the price of a new camera.
cuz u might have to replace the main circuit.
