Trailer with English subtitles. I recommend people watching it. It's produced by del Toro who directed Pan's Labyrinth, but this film is directed by Juan Antonio Bayona. It seems good. I haven't seen as of yet.
My apologies if another thread for this film exists then close this one down.

I heard good reviews, that's why. My personal opinions don't really have much sway, you know? Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I hate how so many people are acknowledging it as this years Pan's Labyrinth. I saw a TV spot that said that.
FYI for those who doubt, 82% on rottentomatoes = critical love.
and nothing to doubt.

I'm taking a taxi to Kentucky where they don't even know all about me. I just need to feel s a f e.
I've got a thousand sweaters, and shoes, and paintings to hide the skeletons in my way.
But he said, "Slow down, slow down. Think it over, we've all got wretched closets, but silly girl pride kills more than Aids lately."
I said, "Come on, I thought it over. I don't wanna die here. I have no desire to get m♥rried."
Every night I pray for you, don't believe in heaven or that it could be a happy place.

First and formost: I don't care how much you dislike horror movies, go see this film. Now.
This is one of the best horror movies I've ever seen, if not the best. And no, I don't just mean the scariest (it was that, too, though), it was one the deepest, most well-made, and most heart-wretching. This just proves you don't need over-the-top killers and vast amounts of blood and gore to make on truly amazing horror movie.
This movie was like a punch in the chest. I'm still in shock from the ending, honestly. It was so chilling and scary on a psycological level, and for multiple reasons my jaw was literally dropped and I had tears streaming down my face.
FYI, I do not normally have reactions like that to movies. Me and my best friend are kind of horror movie junkies, so it's not very often a film leaves us in THAT much awe, in THAT much fright, and THAT emotional at the end. But the Orphanage did that.
I mean, I watched half the movie curled up in my seat with my hands covering half my face. But it was so damn good. XDDD
I realize saying it was scary as hell will probably turn a lot of people off from it, since a lot of people simply don't like being afraid (I love it, hah hah), but yeah, take my word for it. The storyline and ending make it totally worth it.
But yeah, there were even parts of the ending that were semi-obviously laid out that I still didn't get until a friend mentioned it after it ended. WARNING: basically the biggest spoiler you could give for this particular movie over here. Only hilight if you've already seen the movie...
[[ It turns out the death of her son is almost the mother's own fault. You're lead to believe maybe the ghosts did it, but after the mother finds her son, it flashes back a few events, one where she puts the heavy bar back in front of the secret door, and one where she is listening through the wall and hears a bang, thinking maybe it IS an invisible ghost after all. She ended up trapping her son in Tomas' secret room, where he perished, and that in turn leads us no answer as to whether or not these ghosts were even real in the first place. ]]
I mean, this detail alone make the movie SO much more tragic, I don't know how I missed it at first. ^^;;

Overall, I liked how it didn't have a usual Hollywood cop-out ending.

But anyway, this was a wonderful movie. Really sad and well done. Great story and the ending is really really sad. A total Greek tragedy.

My heart was literally pounding during certain scenes...the masked boy::shudder::
The interaction between the mother and simon were so heartbreaking especially when he found out he was adopted and was going to die and he was yelling at Laura about it. ...oh and of course the ending when the mother realizes she trapped her son in the secret room and feels guilt. My friend and I were like what's that noise? when Laura would just be talking to her husband and you can hear pounding in the background. We were like do they hear that? Is that part of the movie?..lol. Then, you find out what happened and it just leaves you speechless.
I also love the whole peter pan subtext with the orphans being like the children in neverland and Laura as Wendy getting older and returning. Ahh, there's so much to say about this film. I keep editing my post.
I demand more people to watch this film instead of some the lame crap that usually top the box office !

It was really well made. I wouldn't say it's the scariest movie. I keep waiting for it but it never came.
And the ending, what can I say? It's heart wrenching. That's going to leave feeling like crap for awhile.
I'm bad at reviews, but it's worth watching.
