Your drive might just be crapping out on you. I had one DVD burner that did that. After wasting about half a dozen DVD-rs I pulled it out and threw it at a wall... I had to replace the drive...
But the point is, the burner is screwing up somewhere. Using different programs is very helpful for diagnostics so you basically eliminated software error.
If its a CD burner, I thin you should just replace it. About $30. If you feel like it, buy a $50 dvd burner (newegg.com is good, NEC burners can be cheap and gets really good reviews averages $40 and they burn dvds.)

does it give you the error in the middle of a burn? or does it not start at all?

Yeah, Your drive has probly shat itself.
But anyway if you are using windows xp you dont need to use software if its a simple burn.. You can use the inbuilt windows burner. Just select what you want burnt.. copy and paste it into your Burner drive. Then right click on your burner drive and click on "write these to disc".

Did you try other batches of data?
Its possible it doesnt like a file in the batch of data you are trying to burn.
The "burner drive" should be shown in my computer. Like DVD-RW Drive E:
or CD-RW drive F:
When you click a burner drive, it should open up and let you drag things into it then burn it.

Are you using disks that you know are "good"? Good as in say you have a spindle of 100 and you have used some of them already or is this a new brand/batch you are using?
Some burners just hate certian brands.
If you can, consider burning another CD in Itunes (put it on a CDRW or something if you want) that way we can confirm data source and compatability with software... etc etc... Because to me it all points to your burner is burned out.

Did you change brands in disks? Had the same problem, one of my DVD/CDR burners would not work on some well known branded disks (CDR, DVD, CD-RW). Thought it was my DVD/CDR burner failing, it was just a problem of worst case tolerance mismatch. Used the suspected bad disks on another burner with no problem.
