I've heard some people say that a calorie is a calorie, and other people say other things...so, if you count calories and eat exactly the amount of calories that you should eat, does it matter where those calories are from? I don't care if I won't feel as good if I eat candy instead of fruit, but does it matter if I eat a small amount of junk food or a big amount of healthy food?

If you don't care about nutrition or your health than by all means, go for it.

what about vitamins and minerals? and different amounts of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, etc?
reason why people need a balanced diet is to keep the body going with all the various nutrients that it needs.
when there is something that is lacking, the body will compensate in other ways
but that compensation causes a strain on your body and will cause some unwanted consequences later on in life
how soon those consequences come will be determined by how much strain you put on your body.
if you want to eat junk food the eat junk food.
but be sure to eat healthy food while you do eat junk food, and enough so your body gets everything u need.
the real secret then is how you can balance your diet to minimize the calories in this entire process.
of course, you'd need to study hard to figure out how to find the right balanced nutrition.
people spend years of study and still don't know how to find the perfect balance.
but if you can figure out the secret, then congrats =)

i'm just saying imo why count calories for?
it's making you counting and worrying that way
all you need is use your common sense to eat the good and dump the bad
eat more healthy food (vegetables, meat, nuts..) and quit the junk (chips, lollies, coke..)
easy enough? good luck~

watcher: I won't eat ALL junk food, but I can't ever give up sweets lol >_> otherwise I go into this crazy depression and I binge on other..foods.

addickshun: I'm counting calories because I'm currently on a diet, and I can do the exercising part just fine but the cravings for sweets is still too strong for me

you can't or you won't? hehe...
there are consequences... just remember that.
i'm 26 now, and i've done a lot of alcohol in my time in college, along with all sorts of junk food and everything horrible that you can imagine for a diet.
u know how hard i gotta work to get back in shape now?!
hehe... think about it, and just dont do it =)

Seriously.

A calorie may be a calorie, but there are tons of other factors in eating healthy.

If your goal is to get diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and suffer from malnutrition, then by all means go for it.

sweets, chocolates and candy in general just contain empty calories, which are basically of no use to your body. carbs, veg, protein food...they all have benefits to our human body, which you will know if you are taking Health or Biology.

imo, if you can control yourself and have like, only 1 sweet per day, i dont see why you cant have it. but then again...a diet is a diet, and it will only work if you can resist temptations.

and all diets will tell you to cut junk food.

Counting total calories is a waste of time. Just look at the fat calories, and only eat foods that have low fat calories. Yeah, sugars are bad too, but you should worry about that after you control the fat. I highly suggest eating fiber and vegetables the most. Starch filled things like rice, beans, potatoes and noodles will fill your stomach and are low in fat. They aren't packed with nutrients, so thats why you need vegetables. The best vegetable with most health impact is the onion. I suggest learning to love it if you don't already. Fruits are good and all, but they should be considered a snack, not a meal.

There you go. You can eat till your satisfied and still lose weight.

If your concerned with carbs, don't be. That was nothing more than a trend diet. Theres nothing wrong with carbs in comparison to other things like sugars and fats.
