Hey guys, I recently got two cartilage piercings with a gun at piercing pagoda on the past halloween.

so it has been about 2 full months and a week or two since i had the two cartilage piercings.

today i felt a lump against the backpost of my earring and when i asked my friend to take a look at it,

she was disgusted because it looked like a little bump on the back of my ear.

the first thing that came up to my mind was... keloid?

so i researched it but it gives me vague answers...

is there anyone thats knowledgeable with ear piercing problems???

how long it takes a keloid to form?

can a boil develop into a keloid?

can a boil be healed easily wit just medication???

just anything that might seem helpful to be at this point

i found out about my "bumps" today

one, i popped it cus it was just bulging out and its just bleeding right now

the other one, its just a small bump, no open wounds or bleeding...

can anyone help me? im so worried...

the pictures i saw of keloids were horrendous...

i dont want to have one...

any help???? anyone????

It's probably a boil.
I've had my cartilage pierced for more than a year now and I've gotten a boil on it twice..=/
Just wait until it has the pus and use a sterile needle to pop it. Then you can just wait for it to heal.

Wow. That does not sound good. I have several lobe and cartilage piercings and from my research, it's never a good idea to pierce the cartilage with a gun. (Don't know the particulars, but it has to do with how the cartilage is formed and how it heals and how that's different from lobes.)

I think you should go visit the piercer or another more experienced piercer (at an actual parlor instead of at the mall) and ask them what they think. I would prepare myself to take it out, but not take it out until I go see the guy who pierced it - which you should do like TODAY. Take your receipt, show him the piercing and what's happening to your ear, express how dissatisfied you are after trusting the Piercing Pagoda to properly pierce your ear, paying money and taking proper care of your piercing. Maybe they'd be able to recommend a smaller earring. If not, demand that he pierce it again at a discounted rate/FREE after taking it out and letting it properly heal (if you want to take the chance with him again).
But it might not happen because sometimes you can't re-pierce cartilage and you did sign a waiver...but still. I think you should demand that they do something if you're unsatisfied with the product you paid for.

Good luck! smile.gif

Oh but I wouldn't worry TOO much about it. lol I didn't mean to make a big deal of it... what I wrote up there ^ is mostly advice a certified piercer friend gave me when I had problems with my first cartilage piercing and it's just fine now.

thank guys
really helped me out
im still worrying but reading your replies
its relieving me a bit :]
thanks!
im treating it with sea salt water right now at the moment
i think i didnt pop it correctly last night
i saw some remains pop out as i dabbed my ear with a cotton swab
the boil-like-looking-bump looks smaller
im just covering it with a band-aid at night so that it doesnt get infected with more bacteria while i sleep

thank you again!

that's why you don't pierce cartilage with guns.

All piercings with guns have a hard lump behind it for a while due to the flesh/cartiledge being pushed outwards.
It shouldn't be a problem ad my bump was bleeding for two weeks non-stop, but about 7 weeks after my piercing, the bump and the bleeding have begun to die down. Also, I found that my piercing seemed to "close up" every time I swabbed it with alcohol, so I ended up just cleaning it thoroughly with soap in the shower. After that my ear stopped bleeding a whole lot more.

^ Cleaning your piercing five times a day is a little extreme.
When you clean a piercing that's trying to heal too often, you'll strip the ear of the cells that are trying to heal and grow back. Just a twist here and there in the shower and a rinse of soapy water will do. I got my ear pierced on Thanksgiving Day (for Canadians).

yes its healed, yes perfume, cos it contains alcohol in em. it was really nasty and i didnt have any alcohol so i needed SOMETHING to clean the cut because when i squeezed the pulse out, blood came out so cleaning it with the perfume helped, stain a bit but it killed bacterias, after tht, 2 days later? or was it 3,it was healed. still hurted a bit but up till now (which is like a year and a half already lol) the lump NEVER came back wink.gif
