anyone playing it right now?

i think it's really the best RPG i've played in a very long time. probably the best i've played for the PS2.

graphics are awesome, the music is amazing, gameplay is fast and not gimmicky, and the stories are very interesting.

in Japan the DQ series was highly popular, some would argue, it was more popular than FF for a long time. The first console RPG that heavily inspired the next two popular RPG series, Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star. FF started introducing a customizeable party system while Phantasy Star (influenced by both DQ and Star Wars) combined sci fi and fantasy so u had vehicles and planetary travel. but FF seems to have caught on better in the US.. there was like 3 DQ games never released in the US, and Phantasy Star series stopped at 4 (PS Online doesn't count as it's totally unrelated to the series).

alot of the previous DQ games tend to involve time travel and changing scenarios. where if you did a certain thing in one world/timeframe, it changes something somewhere else.

i remember playing dragon warrior 1 with my brother alongggg time ago. (now known as dragon quest, anyone can correct me on this, but i know they're related)
when i saw this i really wanted to get it, but i really hate the whole dragonball look to it, the only thing that didn't make me spend money to buy it. Instead, just going to wait for my friend to finish it and borrow it from him =P

Yup, I've been playing it every chance I get. Because I'm so busy, I've only played about 14 hours since I bought it on release day but it's addicting.

The battle system is simple and character customization is really streamlined too but I love it!!

I read everyone complimenting DQ VIII on its graphics. It's cause the artist is the same guy who did graphics for Dragon Ball. I'd say we tend to be loyal to the famed talented artists with merit to their works. I guess not too many people play DQ VIII but rather FF. I like FF too but this is a nice changeup.

finished the game last year, mid-of last year. Its a great game though, sometimes in the middle of the game i wana quit because the bosses are too hard, but at last i finished it.

83hrs++ game completion.
